Which pickup for 15k

Hi

Im looking at getting rid of my 2004 defender td5 pick up for a more modern motor ...getting fed up of the bills on the defender.

ive got a 15k budget. Which pickup would be best for light duties? Im looking for something that will take a daily commute up a 2 mile rough track - so bushes, springs and hub seals etc take some abuse. Not much towing needed. Needs to have a canopy for holding dogs.

Had a few locals telling me to go with Hilux but know I can get a newer pickup if go with other brands. So thought Id ask on here if anyone has similar needs to me and what pickup they are driving.

Cheers

It'a Landrover . . . what's there to work out?

(I've got three old ones here, and love them, but they take a bit of nursing to keep them going!)
Never owned a landrover, I thought older models were not too bad and fairly straightforward diy maintainance and repairs.. I would have no hesitation in buying one for towing 3.5 trailer but they are silly money now

I can't work this out??? You are not doing big miles, you are not towing
You are only carrying dog yet you are having big bills...I am baffled???

I think the track takes it tole on it. Plus the defender its on 150k - so its done some miles.

Chassis is solid, out riggers solid, foot well solid, bulk head solid. Its more the suspension and wheel (hubs etc) area and also the steering.

most recently drive shaft and splines into transmission box (i think thats what it is) they went and so had to stump up bill for that to be replaced.

more than anything I want something that can take the daily tole of the track and not cost a fortune every time I have to repair it eg if i were to go with a vm amarok... that will be costly.

Or do i stick with defender...but to be in a warm cab in winter would be a great upgrade :)

Might be a better idea to upgrade the 2 mile track and spend less on a fresh truck else you will end up back at square 1 with wrecked suspension on something else

Its limited to sand stone only...so can only put sandstone down...not long before suspension wrecking potholes appear...plus the costs of buying sandstone, hauling-it (in tractor) and time taken to do it means i need something thats robust.

Why not buy a machine to rip it up and then level it in 1 pass, give it a run along it when holes start appearin save yourself a fortune in the long run

WK 3.0 CRD Grand Cherokee Overland with refreshed suspension wearing Bilsteins and Moog Bushes and AT tyres etc for half that budget. Merc Engine so bit's 2 a penny.

If you don’t need to tow 3.5 to legally you can’t beat a l200 for a farm truck comfortable doesn’t feel numb like new rangers and hiluxs also very easy/cheap to fit parts to and maintain

you’ll get one with less than 50k miles on easily for 15k

or do the above and get one of the contractors to add cement to it (or would that be too expensive now with the cost of everything going up), but I certainly agree, sort out the track, I did here and the best thing I have ever done on the farm.

If the track is destroying the defender suspension on a regular basis I can’t see a pickup been any better. Defender parts are cheaper than pretty much any pickup as well.

your best option mite be to take note of what the postie uses and buy one of those.

I’ve never liked land rovers until I inherited my dads. Been driving it a couple of years now and have become quite attached to it. It’s the only vehicle I have that is going up in value.

I’d be tempted to spend a bit on the Landy and get it up together and then improve the track. Sounds like it will knacker any vehicle using it.
