Who do you insure with?

Fleet policy with Cornish Mutual and everything else with NFU Mutual.
Both give excellent local service and have been first class when we have had to make a claim.
Local agents mean that come renewal or a claim and problem you can look them in the eye and get hold of them. Internet insurance doesn’t appeal to me.
Cheapest may not be best value in the long term.

In terms of service I can wholeheartedly recommend @Kimberley from Grosvenor Insurance Brokers, really personable and puts the effort in.

Not had to make a claim yet which I suppose is the proof, but very happy so far.

I had insured with the NFU for over 30 years but when I had something oddball they wouldn’t even drive 15 miles to have a look before flatly refusing to insure. Kimberley drove from Cheshire, getting on 100 miles maybe, spent three hours with us and took all the details to quote.

Not the cheapest, but that’s not always the point.

Thank you @Cab-over Pete for the personal recommendation. It is always nice to hear good, positive feedback first thing in the morning of a new working day!

BKG West here. Not quite the service levels or speed of claim handling that I experienced with the NFU beforehand but the saving in premium does help to offset that somewhat.

We were with NIG through a good broker, for many years. Excellent service and no hassle.
Then the brokerage was taken over, the good people left and now we have left too. Also NIG increased premiums substantially and we found we'd been placed with several insurers I'd never heard of.
Now with NFU. Time will tell..... :scratchhead:
Just two claims on machinery in 3 years, all paid up promptly.

Hi everyone,

I would always say go with a Broker as they have access to the wider market and can approach all insurers. If you go direct with one insurer you get their best quote and have nothing to compare it with. We have good relationships with our insurers and can negotiate premiums and settlements of claims. There are plenty of brokers out there and you can search for one in your local area visit https://www.biba.org.uk

Hope this helps

How many claims are you making ?
Insurance is there for the misfortunes that you can't afford to cover under normal business conditions.
Every body puts their share in the pot to help those who suffer misfortune, expecting help when they suffer.
If you are claiming on a regular basis you are not acting in the spirit of the scheme and are being unfair on the other premium payers.
He has got to get his money back somehow

I would agree. That said, some brokers seem to have friendly agreements with some underwriters and get incentives for putting certain amounts of business their way so whilst they have access to the wider market, many seem to stick to their preferred 1 or 2 underwriters. Not that there's an issue with sticking to quality underwriters you know.....it's just their claim about the wider market doesn't always stack up with some.

Weatherbys Hamilton here

Changed from NFU
Made a saving...
Made a claim on the JCB...

Happy enough here, tbh it's a cost that should be routinely reviewed every 3-4 years

Is anyone finding NFUM dropping their price at the first sign of healthy competition? Shouldn’t they give that rate to all of their customers not just the ones who get quotes?

Moved from NFU to F&M 3 years ago and HALVED what we wee paying - have been very happy with their cover (actually better than NFU) and service and they have paid out when required with no issues

Just up for renewal and thought I would give Acres a try - the advertising on the forum, a lot of their team, is ex NFU and F&M including the man who started F&M originally. I have the quote and it looks like big saving again ..................... the kids will get Christmas presents after all ! :)
