We were once loading heifers, we had them in a corral and were loading them into the trailer, we got 5 in but the last one wouldn’t take it’s back foot off the ramp. I had the gates of the trailer round but not closed because of the back foot. Father, in his wisdom, decided to prod the back foot of the heifer with his stick. It lashed out, kicking the gate into my face, planting my glasses firmly into my nose, breaking it and my glasses. I picked the glasses out of my nose, flapped the loose skin off my nose back up and shut the trailer gate.

I now have three black teeth and white scar down the side of my nose - all adds to the rugged charm. I try not to let the old man use sticks anymore either.

Also have two bent little fingers, bashed against gates by beasts before we had a decent handling set up.

More from machinery than livestock. But did get put in hospital the first milking in a new rotary parlour; cows had never been milked between back legs and one took exception to what she regarded as an affront to her dignity. Kicked in the face, lifted me off my feet and slid down the wall behind me. Lad round the other side said he heard the crack and knew exactly what had happened. Overnight stay in hospital with concussion but otherwise ok.

Once got kicked by a stag while trying to push it into crush; both back legs at once. totally floored me, pain was horrible and broke out in torrents of sweat. Vet who was there thought I had ruptured my spleen but once again no problems after an hour or so.
I know all these things are annoying at the time but sometimes I wonder about all the people who never do anything physical at all and whose body coordination is non existent. Farming might be at the far end of the scale in some ways but I am happy for it to be that way. Of course there are/were many people whose encounters with livestock proved fatal. Each day we should try to avoid becoming a statistic.

Get that nose looked at as it might want straightening. Hurt mine when I was younger and had to have a nose job later to straighten the septum as I couldn’t breathe at night.

On this farm: I’ve broken arm (Tb testing) leg (dog ran into me) and others have cut to the cheek bone, wrist wanked so hard a bone popped out and travelled up the forearm, rotator cuff torn maybe 3 times, collar bone....... it goes on

Bought new limousin bull few years ago. Had to push him out of mart. When got home thought would lead him out as yard full of sheep scanning. Couldn't control him and he ended up pushing me onto grass where i fell over. Bull ran ever me catching head with foot and 7 stitches required.
Month later we were selling old bull he replaced fat. Never had a single problem all his life. He walked straight into trailer then kicked out as I closed gates. Gate hit nose, blood everywhere but not broken.

Broke my cheekbone earlier this year, a gate slipped off its catch with cattle the other side. Fortunately the safety chain held.

Dislocated shoulder, perforated ear drum and knocked out cold by my own cattle at the market. Held up the sale as I went blue while they were drawing lots to see who would give me the kiss of life. To their eternal relief I came round.
Split head open while dehorning and the vet stemmed the bleeding thankfully not with the gas burner. Broken fingers and severe kick to testicles loading cattle for my neighbour. His wife offered some arnica to rub on until she realised I was not holding my knee.

Fractured skull from an accidental kick to the head. Was from a horse so I don't know if it counts
No it doesn't, if you are close enough to a horse that it injures you, you bring misfortune on yourself (three horse linked hospitalisations here)

What stands out reading these is that most are just the type of thing that could happen to any of us in our day to day work (apart from the wrist w#nk) rather than doing anything stupid.
When the accident figures are published and Agriculture is ranked worst, we really can't be compared like for like with any other industry.
Stay safe everyone.

It's little accidents that mount up in my case. Damage to fingers has been the worst - wrenchings, squashings, breaks - most being sheep related.

Some injuries are exactly the same as those incurred in sport, and are easily mended given the right conditions, but, ... because there's a job to finish, the instinct is to battle on. In the long-term, that's not very bright.
