Is profi worth buying?

What about a farming forum machinery magazine?
oh dear god no.

massey are crap
fendt are over priced crap
jd are crap
nh and case are cheap crap
ford go porous
davy broons have weak cranks
kubota are too orange
deutz are excellent for 2 years, then owners mysteriously go quiet and buy a valtra, which are of course excellent instead.

oh and tedders simply must have hooked tines.
choppers must throw to the right

that about covers it

no need for a magazine.

You forgot that Valtra ownership costs are zero, as they never break down; Fendt make their own diesel, so are able to do 29mpg; Stewart, Western, Bailey, Kane , KTwo, Smyth , Dooley, Marshall are the best/worst trailers!

The only thing I find relevant is what is being printed today might be on our purchase list several years later. So with that in mind, I only buy what I think will be relevant. I enjoy the dairying articles, but nearly 80% of its content is not applicable to what we do.

I agree with other posters, classic tractor is a better read. Its practical tips section is first class. I think as farmers we have to be able to repair more kit than ever before, showing how to repair machinery is probably the universal platform. Whether its a tractor with seals, pistons; or a trailer with a leaking ram; or the dreaded power washer. I def have more classic tractors than profi for that reason alone.
All that said, Utube has become my favourite place to get information and tips.

I think profi editorial is usually a bit weak, it covers stuff, but no real detail. Usually just a 4-5 page light read. I think they could go a step further. It seems they tip toe around the manufacturers and maybe that's to do with advertising revenue. I would much rather a more elaborate editorial where issues and known issues are teased out.

I bought this months profi and theres nothing of interest and its made me think I will have to look more at each topic before I choose to buy it next time. I think profi is more of a treat when Im at the filling station, whereas classic tractor is a must have if the practical tips interest me.

Don't think I will ever subscribe to either as more than half of the yearly stuff is not worthwhile.

When I moved to France I cancelled my subscription that I had had for a good 20 years. I also cancelled classic tractor. I only miss the later. Profi used to be great but the last 10 years the writing has got progressively worse. I wish I had ditched it years ago! Making money seems to be their only interest now, back in the day it felt more like they really wanted to offer an unbiased perspective.

I used to get profi. Wife got me subscription as part o christmas present but after few years i told her to cancel it as it never gav the smaller players a fair chance and it would be interestin to know stuf about them as massey case nh jd lets face it were gonna see plenty o them about and get to sit in them so dont need to read about them. But worst magazine i ever read is grassmens. What a load of utter tosh. Nothin tecnical just as if it was joe blogs down the road wrote it. Dont know why ppl buy into ther nonsense so much cause ther only batch o idiots that can just about drive. Would you want donkey drivin your tractor? I certainly wouldnt

I get most farm machinery magazines including Profi and i have found they are invaluable however to obtain that value they must be kept for at least ten years then when you are buying your next piece of secondhand kit you can peruse your archive in order to find out how good the piece of rusty junk you are now buying was when new and shiny.

They have a good website where you used to be able to download old articles. I've benefited from that once or twice
