Is profi worth buying?

If the Profi lot are looking in hopefully they will notice that their product is not up to our expectations, if they are brave enough to acknowledge this what should they do to improve it? I started subscribe 20 odd years ago when it felt more like power farming used to and seemed independent and “of use” now it seems front to back advertorial ( at least it did when I packed it in 6 months ago) If we want to retain these titles for the future rather than lament their passing on these pages perhaps we should start to suggest to these editors some constructive changes that would bring us, their customers, back to the fold.

On separate subject I can't buy the farmers weekly in my area anymore as most shops and newsagents have stopped stocking it due to poor sales

Funnily enough, in my area, on the Glos/Herefordshire border, Old Yellow is available in every supermarket and shop in town. Perhaps the farmers in your area know something the ones around me don't.

I don’t buy any. Why should anyone pay to be advertised to these days ? All these magazine have their business model wrong IMO and are slowly drowning as a result. Internet has changed everything for ever
Been hearing that for years.

I was talking to a mag editor who pointed out that subscritions had hardly dropped over the last few years but bright youngs things in the marketing depts of advertisers have decided that unless somebody clicks on a link then they haven't taken notice of an ad. Complete nonsense of course but spreadsheets have to be filled with positive figures and that's tricky with magazine ads but pretty straightforward with online advertising, so guess which suffers despite there being no method of directly comparing the two!

He popped up quick enough when someone posted a picture of a profi article!

Threatening legal action.

Haven't bought it for several years either. Cancelled subscription.

lots of print publications (not just ag) have disappeared from the newsagents - i doubt it was because they were growing readership

what’s left is totally controlled by the advertising budget, more and more pages dedicated to ads or advatorial

Look no further than Farmers weeklys ABC stats over the last 6 yrs if you want to see what’s going on with circulations. Farmers are not falling for it any more and can get all the same news (sooner) , reviews and more for free online

if they don’t change the model they will all die eventually

Actually I know for certain that you are wrong there.

If they ran tests on anything I might actually buy, I'd reconsider, but it got terrible before I packed up.
Googled one machine today, and relevant article is behind a £15 paywall on Profi; from a time when I was actually subscribing too, to add insult to injury. It can stay there.

Good evening all

Yes profi international is aware of this thread and both the negative and positive comments within. If you have thoughts on how the magazine can be improved please get in touch.

I will come back to this on Monday but just to clarify one point. We are in the fortunate position that we are well regarded by the manufacturers for our editorial independence which is the cornerstone of the magazine

As you may have guessed by username I never wanted to come on here and write about profi. This forum has some useful content and it is good to learn from, particularly the workshop and dairy sections but I usually stay over on Forum4Fa

If you wish to get in touch then please do, my email is [email protected]

I should imagine you would want to leave it there if only because ABC figures don't tell the whole story.

you’re probably right, i mean it’s not like you ever read about anyone not renewing or cancelling a subscription is it ................. oh hang on i just read the thread title :D

One of the major problems that Profi has compared with the late lamented Power Farming is that machines are so much more sophisticated and they are generally pretty good at what they do. It's tricky dishing the dirt on a tractor when it does exactly what it says on the box. Does anybody know of a modern machine that does not live up to the specific claims made for it by the manufacturer? I can only think of our Czech Republic friends and their new iteration of the Crystal as being a recent example of a turkey, but even that's been sorted now.

Edit: There was also talk of one of the more modest JD's being underpowered on here recently.

deutz are excellent for 2 years, then owners mysteriously go quiet and buy a valtra, which are of course excellent instead.

choppers must throw to the right

that about covers it

no need for a magazine.

You missed Valtra are the best.
