Best way too get insurance for a young driver.

Our daughter is with Marmalade and a black box. Advice we were given is to have a car with as low an engine cc that you can find. Definitely not anything with a i or a turbo.
Our sons been on that for two years with a clean sheet and license but due in February and has nearly doubled in price for some reason

I know NFU get a bad press on here, but they were the only ones who give a sensible quote when I tried to add my daughter to my policy as a learner driver. Quite a few years ago, so may have changed since then.
I am a named driver on my sons policy, but will have to be removed soon as insurers dont like anyone approaching 70.

Insurance is an absolute scam. Admiral are usually the cheapest, you might find a focus cheaper than a fiesta as afforementioned less likely to be a first car and therefore less accidents. Adding onto farm insurance is good but be aware it only covers "farm use" anything outside of that and they might not pay out.

Simple fact is, you are forced to buy insurance so why should any of them make it cheap? its clear collusion, couldnt help but laugh when they were talking about it on the news the other day and the chap said that the insurance people want to make it cheaper! Why would they?? Where is their incentive? They all jack the prices way up and they all make tons of money.
Don't think they make it out of young drivers though. A lot of them of both sexes crash in the first year often with car full of friends and all make pi claims

The NFU get a bad name, but the NFU Mutual are an excellent insurance firm. I have all my insurance with them, I haggle the price every year and find the price very competative.

And if you have a claim you can talk to someone whose first language is English.

Read up on what Martin Lewis has to say on the subject. We got down to £900 for a new driver with a 1.2 L Seat. Nfu quote £3500. We used an insurance market website.
The best deal involved a black box for 1 yr . Mileage set at 10000 as he was a student living away at college. A student at home is more expensive than a student living at college. some job titles load the premium also.

Surely won’t help them build up a no claims bonus if policy not in their own name though?
17 year old daughter with 1.0L Polo was £950 with Mrs & I also down as named drivers.

As for black boxes. Don’t think they will do you much good good if home is mainly along C Class roads with Deer & Pheasants that are likely to jump out in front of you.
The problem is when they are 17-19 premiums are high on age basis , drop dramatically when they get to 21 when i make my children get their own insurance.
My eldest daughter achieved that last year, getting first time(in her own name) insurance at 21 for £800 despite having had a claim previously.

Price up a small petrol car. Daughter 3 years ago was £1200 on a 2013 VW polo 1.2 , F/C in her own name, but had me, the wife and the grandparents as named drivers it seemed the more the cheaper it was (and they were over 70), oh and a black box, but with no curfiews or milage restrictions. But must behave, as I've heard of kids localy having their insurance cancelled due to bad driving. Now she is 19 going on 20 it's down to £400 in a multi car policy with the wife.
I remember years ago (probably 15+ or so) a friend having insurance refused on his 17 year old lad on a 47hp Daihatsu charade 1 litre turbo diesel because it was a turbo !!!!
Edit. Nfu insured her as a learner driver and after passing her test as a named driver on the pickup, but don't want to know for her own car, don't think they would even quote.

Having difficulty getting a sensible quote for daughter, just passed test, looking at £4000 for her too insure a 1.5tdi fiesta.
Who is good for young drivers?
Just done daughters £1400 with no black box , on a Ford Ka.
The longer you can get quote for the better, like 2 weeks time, makes a difference.
