Working with our partner company Bosch Beton we've seen the system achieving some impressive high DM silage with minimal wastage on another farm

I've attached some photos of our visit even down to a "starling" curtain on a catenary wire

Yes there have been some EU grants covering partial funding which now, self evidently, cannot apply to the UK bit it remains an interesting system

There is one system up and running in the UK btw

As with many of these things it can be a generational decision, granted. In fact I have a customer in the South East selling a building plot to fund a compliant silage clamp (s) that will keep the level area at the end of his portal buildings clear so his young Son can expand the herd readily again if he so chooses when he takes over the reins . This investment will be his last to give his Son a leg up

Where is the system in the UK up and running? And what about rodents?
Also how long does a cover last 10 years?

I enquired a few years ago about the cost and although expensive if you factored in the time of sheeting pits and buying the plastic and removal of the plastic over 10 years it made sense.

fertiliser bags and silage sheets are my biggest waste.

would make environmental sense to have this.

Another consideration might be how it overcomes a safety rail, I’m not sure a new clamp like that would be acceptable in the UK?

Huddersfield and the weight of the sheet is about double that of a truck curtainsider at 1200g/m2

Maybe it’s not farmers who need to see this, perhaps DEFRA should grant fund it as part of assisting farms to reduce plastic waste.

That clamp still has top and side sheets. All it saves is lugging a few tyres.

its more that just a few tires or bags when your pits over 100metres long and takes 8 people a full day to sheet it and i think they just use side sheets

Well spotted,I have always thought an empty fireman's hose laid out in a criss cross manner and then filled with water would be a very good way of holding a sheet down,with a clamp put on to let water out as pit was used

This is a similar system I saw on a visit to Holland last year. The unroller was powered by a hydraulic motor connected to a tractor spool valve. I think the unroller was about 30k. The tubes on the cover were filled by pumping water out of the dyke into them.
