A million tons in the netherlands going to waste because of covid19, farmers selling them off as stock feed at awful prices

will be the same here unless something changes. Trouble is there ain’t much stock in East Anglia to feed them too!

It a PR disaster, people can’t get enough food (food banks etc) and we might have to dump them for nothing.

Might be worth getting in touch with any local food banks, nursing homes, charities and the like to see if they want any, wont make any money but be worth the feel good factor.

I give some to the local food bank at Christmas time.

And Whilst I agree with your sentiments, giving away for free what was worth £200K two weeks ago Wouldn’t make me feel good.

If the government was to compensate us in some way then by all means we could do it.

At present I have to try and sell as much as I can, all be it only 10% in volume to two weeks back.

Any thoughts about this coming week? I have had several messages and orders for marfona. Will the price rally? What about fryers? Anybody had a crazy rush at the gate?

Still lifting here, even though take aways are allowed to stay open it’s the lack of footfall that’s killing it I think?

It really is looking quite disastrous to me. Lack of demand now is t helping and how are we going to keep stuff into the spring without cipc?

Any grants going to erect cold stores ?? The grower who rented land off me was dipping his toe in the water with markies and romano for the chipping market .
I told him not to bother as local stuff cant compete on dry matter and fry colour with the english spuds . He has them in cold stores and reckons the will shift eventually .
The farmers journal are saying that rooster and kerr pinks are trading at 380 to 400 euro a ton in boxes but that trade is slow. As a wise man once said the farmers journal buys neither spuds , corn, or cattle so the can claim what the like !!
Hopefully the trade will improve .

Is there something ace about these rooster spuds or just good marketing? Mrs teslacoils brought some back from the shop in a fancy bag and the chips were middling to poor, and the mash no better than any generic reds.

Visually the are very appealing with high yields and good skin finish . The are now the main variety grown over here . You are right regarding the flavour nothing special in my humble opinion . Give me Queens , records and Golden wonders any day .

They were supposed to be a multi purpose one, but they don't fry at all well. To be fair I didn't roast any, but they will sell loads in their fancy bags.

We brought some back from Ireland many years ago.
Didn’t like them at all, acquired taste I guess.
Good marketing.
