Digger hire rates

Don't know how much a js130 burns but I'd imagine at least £12/hr for white just now.

I'd factor £20/hr for maintenance/depreciation/replacement costs

£15/hr minimum for your labour as can basically get that anywhere on someone else's tractor or digger.

That's £47/hr before adding a bit for profit or transport/insurance

In reality you'd need close to £60 I'd say. However if you can buy a £20k machine and run it for 5 years without spending too much and sell it for close to what you paid you might manage to make something at £45/hr.

If you have to replace undercarriage or the pump goes you'll need to clean a lot of ditches to get that back. Those making and selling parts show no mercy so the days of running machines on the cheap are basically over

You can hire in a 13t for sub£500 a week here. If you have a full weeks work it doesn't make any sense to buy one and allow £20 per hr maintenance/replacement.

Just trail it, do a deal with a local plant hire firm, no need for the outlay or carting it around. Unless you need the machine work work at home etc

Yes at those rates it doesn't make much sense owning one

A lot depends how skilled you are at operating a digger, a good driver might be cheap at €100 an hour compared to a brain dead driver on €45 an hour. I’ve seen poor drivers costing the job a fortune
Yeah everyone wants to know how much per hour they should be charging/paying but there's a big variation in what some ops are worth.

I disagree, the running costs of older 13ton machines is small, I have 5 of them in work of various makes for example 2 new track motors for a cx130 was £1800 each, not worth repairing the old ones that’s probably the biggest cost I’ve had in years and I’ve only had 1 pump let go about 8 years ago and that was rebuilt for under £2k.
43,000hrs between them
The 4BG1T Isuzu engine fitted to jcb, case, hitachi & kobelco 13t machines is ultra reliable
