I was told spring barley and wheat pretty much sold out. Normally we can buy extra from Poland but the Germans have bought all theirs.

And the sad thing is folks will be trying to grow something out of some misplaced duty to fill fields and show willing then get bent over by the trade on seed and a flooded malting barley market next summer. . I won’t be doing that. If the agro writes off the OSR it can be fallow and entered into a scheme …. permanently.

Of all the crops we grow it would be a poor do if malting barley off the heap doesn’t make germination. I’ve no problem paying royalties but can’t see why the ban on farmer to farmer trading couldn’t be suspended in a year like this. Chances are many have already paid royalties on failed crops anyway.

We are aware of current conditions. Farm-saved seed is though defined in law as the product of a farmer’s own harvest re-sown on his own holding. The transfer of farm saved seed from one holding to another for sowing whether free, bartered or sold is transgressing the Plant Breeders Rights and is against the law.
