2 post Car ramps are one off those tool that is are not pricey but well worth it but I would definitely look at the a scissor lift for a farm as a more off a work bench with a steel plate as well a car ramp

I've not read the whole thread, but don't bodge something to lift the vehicle in the air. I know of two people who are dead because they bogged a lift.
I bought a 3 ton 4 post Bradley lift for £400 with a new set of cables for my 40th birthday, I was sick of crawling about outside in the rain servicing my family's cars. I swapped the 3 phase motor for a single phase one and got someone to make a new drive flange to mate the new motor to the old pump. Runs off a 13a plug with no issues, I've not looked back. Plus with a couple of modified pallets filling the middle it makes a great adjustable workbench, which makes welding or repairing stuff much easier.
If you don't want to splash on a lift , don't bodge, just take it to the local garage, and live to see another day 👍

How long do you think the job will take
Some garages rent lifts by the hour/day
Quick Google, first I saw was £120 per da
local garages wouldnt be amenable to that sort of thing, they are just out for themselves these days, few years ago there was one that was really good but no t now, arrogant overchargers mostly.good one i know of farther away but
its only pullable /movable with the tractor not keen on going too far like that :cautious::D

the 2 post one new for £1350 looks useful & tempting. will have to see.

I guess they may be out for themselves as they have to run a profitable business and with rates, rents, trade insurance, card handling fees etc they have to run an efficiently as possible. Renting a ramp for £120 a day would likely not cover what that ramp costs in real terms and the insurance minefield of having an unqualified member of the public working within their premises would be immense

Garages have lifts for themselves.
There are other folk with industrial units and lifts for hire.
It's a different type of business.
Hire mine if you want. ££

Thanks but I have had or have no intention of renting a ramp .

The clutch has now been successfully replaced and we managed it without using a ramp/lift.

Will keep an eye out for a 4 poster as time goes on , fixing cars makes a quite good change from farm machinery .

Bradbury with full length rails is an excellent bit of kit, you can leave the car in the air on the rails and use the ramp with timbers across the bed to drop transmissions down. 2 poster is better for most other jobs and takes up less space

A bit extreme for servicing a mower... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Maybe, but it’s a lot easier than either working on the floor or busting my back lifting it onto the work bench!
The ramp was installed in January this year and so far has had a Discovery 1 on it for welding, Mrs GmBs CRV for brake pads, son-in-laws car for ABS wheel sensor, and essential work to the lawnmower, busted pull start.
