Try insurance in NI if you want extortionate. Daughter is 17 , Audi A1 2.0 tdi, lowest we could get is £4300. AXA quoted £7000 ir £6200 with black box.
2 litres is a fairly lifty car surely. We got our daughter on as a named driver for 400 quid . Yes she's not got a policy on her own name but really who cares for a year or two , two years insurance 8 grand . It's ridiculous.

1.4 polo quoted at £3800
Try looking at a Seat Ibiza ( basically the same car)or a Clio. When my daughter was looking at cars I got a quote for 1.4 Ibiza and ut was considerably cheaper than a 1.0 polo, I thinks its that they are not as popular amongst the 18 year old boy racers. She ended up with a fiat 500 which isn't that bad to insure.

Over here you won't insure anything for less than £3k for a 17 year old in their own name. No claims bonus is 30% after first year.

I live in Donegal. I do remember when I bought my first car in 1994 (in NI)I wanted a 205 but ended up with a 309 as the insurance was cheaper, I nearly bought a Nissan Bluebird as they where easy to insure for some reason. Later that summer I went to Nottingham to start may sandwich placement and my insurance dropped by about 50%

dont know about the north , but was over to a wedding about 15 years ago in the south , there wasnt much motors with out a bash in them , a few couples had travelled over and the the hire cars were bloody awful , racing down a motor trying to keep up with family that had been sent up to show us the way serious wheel shake at 70miles an hour in the pissing rain , friends mondeo they nick named it the general lee as it had so many bashes in it , no wonder your insurance is so expensive !

all depends if she is the main driver or not , they are clamping down on this big time, how they know i dont and in a couple of years her insurance wont drop that much because of age . better hope she does have a bump as it could open a can of worms

She isn't the main driver , just as we have agreed . To spend 4 grand on probably 2 trips a week is ludicrous. Enough to keep her confidence and grow in experience.
