    Grassland overseed

Have several fields where leys are starting to get tired, I would like to perk them up a bit. Would prefer not to plough out, how successful would hammering with grass harrows in September and chucking seed on? I do realize weather would be dependent. Any downfalls? Tia.

Beef cattle, numbers game or myth?

Are cattle now a numbers game with forklifts at 90k, tractors at 130k, contractor rates and repair costs now through the roof it strikes me that running a small herd or fattning number will struggle to pay for this let alone provide a profit, arent producers going to have to think bigger in...

Available farms for drainage plough demonstration

Hi all, We're looking for some available farms throughout the UK to host some demonstrations for our Soil-Max drainage plough. I'm wondering if anyone would be available to help us host in 2-3 months from now. Below is a video of the last demonstration we held just outside of Duxford. Recent...

Direct drilling into heavy clays is a battle still to be won

Eight years of trials with cover crops and direct drilling has prompted more questions than answers. The soil advisers at Agrii like to remind me that there is more to direct drilling than simply placing the seed into uncultivated ground. “You have to earn the right,” they tell me in reference...

The heaviest / most difficult soils to farm in the Uk?

I ask the above as during my farming life I have only been associated with Cotswold brash. I was therefore wondering what it must be like farming soils that are very unforgiving and difficult to farm, Have any of you that farm very heavy structureless soils made Direct Driling/ Zero til work for...

    Grassland Direct Drill

Looking at Purchasing a Grassland Direct Drill and looking at an Erth agriseeder or a Moore unidrill. Leaning towards the Erth for dealer backup and looking at them think it's possibly the better drill. The guttler rollers on the Moore drill I prefer but just looking for other people's opinions...

    Mole Drainage

So….. question from someone who has come of chalk down land that never really needed draining. We are now living in central France with some very different ground to what I have been used to. During the winter the ground quickly water logs and takes a long time to dry in the spring. The farm is...

How to boost direct drilled spring barley

I’ve got a problem with some spring barley drilled with a 750 into spring wheat stubble on March 30th. The barley has no go in it, it’s all got spindly leaves and no tillers and despite an 85% establishment it still hasn’t covered between the rows after emerging about a month ago. I’m not sure...

    Spring barley into stubble turnips

We tried DD for the first time last some to put some turnip/forage rape mix into winter barley stubble, tried two different drills and both seemed to have worked well. Have been wondering about planting some of the following spring barley into the turnip land with a simtech drill, is there...

Well seeing as it’s new year and last years thread on this topic ram to 80 pages, thought it time to start a new one for this year’s harvest. I don’t have a lot of winter corn in but what I have is looking ok. The warm December certainly did no harm. A selection as off today. Graham after...

    Horsch joker alternative.

What are the option out there for a machine like a horsch joker with a tg bar. Plenty of manufactures do a short disc and plenty do something like a sumo but very few do a short disc with a set of ripper type legs rather than a sub-soiler.
