3 For 2 Trailer Deal

So, at the moment I have the use of 4 8 ton AS Marston trailers, I own three and one belongs to a family member who farms separate but I pretty much have use of it whenever needed.

Anyway next year the family member is winding up and having a sale so I will be one trailer less next harvest. What I’m seriously considering doing is putting my 3 trailers in the sale also and getting two 16 ton trailers. This would cut down on road miles as well as updating the trailers to air brakes etc.

so my questions are -
No 1 what sort of money do you think these will bring at a sale?

I’ve had a dealer out to have a look and give quote to part x, he’s going to give me a base price to swap in but he’s not come back yet and he’s not worried if I sell them privately etc.

No 2,
I’ve spec’d air/hydraulic brakes, rollover sheet, automatic tail, grain shoot, front window, 550 tyres.
Have I missed anything important?

So far I’m waiting on a prices from Western and K2, going to speak to someone about a Stuart tomorrow and I’ve priced Bailey in the past (think they’re overrated/priced to be honest) but will probably get a quote from them again just to be fair.
Any other makes I should consider?

Thanks in advance for your input ?

I have an 8 ton aw, been on the farm since the late 80,s, still use it for getting muck out, not to big around the buildings and don,t make to much mess on the field, very well made trailers in there day, value would be 2.5 k all day long, about what we paid for ours new. All the trailers you mentioned are good, my choice would be K2 for value for money.

I would say it will cost you 30 to 35k to swap
Your trailers 2 to 3 k each new 16 to full spec trailer will be 20k+ each
I’d work on £1k a ton for a well spec trailer Stewert here only thing I can fault floor seems long way off the floor toes like a dream
Load senceing a must

I think you will be fortunate if your three trailers buy much more than half a high spec new 16 tonner
I appreciate that selling the three probably won’t cover the cost of one however it will help a little, I’m not expecting miracles ?. However I think with only 3 8t trailers we’ll probably struggle to keep up up with the combine on some land so an update is probably needed and over due.

I imagine you will get on much better with 2 big ones, they would keep abreast of a fair combine if tail board tipping.
I suspect yours will be £2800/2900 bracket, tidy I0 tonners are always £3000/3250 on those wheels.

We did similar last year and traded two for one new Stewart. About a month later one of them was in a different dealers advert in the yellow peril...........at twice the money we got for it!
It was only in one week so I assume it sold at something like that money.
We usually sell via TFF classifieds so I can’t think what made us trade in, but won’t be repeating that!

to be fair i would just got to a sale, on a good day at york you get get 3 really decent modern trailers with roll over sheet in good shape for £15k, if your managing with them surely they would make the job much easier why the big investment?

Kinda an inbetween size maybe, we put 2 trailers in a few years ago, an 8 tonne & a 6 tonne on a single axle & the dealer said the 6 tonne will be easier for him to sell, anybody wants a 10 tonne plus trailer for haulage but the 6 tonner was more use as a mobile feed bin for a dairy farmer, maybe depends on area though....

I'd try to sell before the sale, not sure you'll get top prices if there are 4 similar trailers in the same sale.

I'd go for 560 radial rather than 550 crossply tyres.

You'll need to order early, most trailer manufacturers have 3 or 4 month lead times.

Add Herron and Kane to your list, I wouldn't bother with any of Northern Ireland's other trailer manufacturers.
