3 in 1 feeders

yes it does seem hard to justify the etra cost in these days especially but horses for courses when ewe feeding i guess

only thing with iae one is the hopper bottom rusts out sooner than i d like - especially if bit of wet feed left in for a while.
I'm not trying to put down the 3-1 but surely if your creep feeding lambs and you want as much in them as possible your better off with IAE then?

might not be comparing like for like tho -wht about a heavy bigger hopper capacity hogg feeder style then getting to similar money,:unsure:but still no option to ration the feed of course.

But the creep feeder is only that.....A creep feeder.

The 3-1 can be used to feed ewes etc on a restricted diet at other times of the year, for example I'm feeding ewes pre-lambing with 3-1's rather than using a snacker or blocks/buckets.

Can use them for cattle as well, can't do that with a creep feeder.

Remember you can use a 3-1 as a creep feeder, just open the slot to max and it's ad lib

I was like you and very sceptical, I only bought one of the smaller ones to feed good ewe lambs rearing twins after a stupid high scanning, does solve the issue of greedy ones eating more than their fair share, cant see working for indoor feeding generally, or rotational grazing of high numbers on small acres, but ive only tried one

Fair enough, I thought indoor lambs it'd be good as you want maximum intakes? - never done it so don't know?
How do you move them? We haven't got a telehandler.... I think the quads would struggle to move them if it was wet and therefore sh1tty around the feeder?

Actually only fed ewe lambs post lambing when it was drier, so only moved a few times, empty or low gator pulled uphill whilst dry in 2WD. Im not actually aiming to feed lambs more ewe lambs rearing twins to save wrong in the bag and loss of condition. We did have a spell of rain when we used it, I don't creep as have good young pastures, hate churning up a field, also think a disaster for feet, but wasnt against first use of 3 in 1, but will admit used on one bunch for 1 year

So your feed rep said you'd be better of using an ad lib creep feeder rather than a 3-1 which can restrict intake...
Or may be he will sell me creep none restrict!.
Just found my 20+ year old IAE feeders 1 needs new floor other just a stand, I rebuilt one years ago but some nicked that one...! must of looked too good!

Well got through lambing these feeders are the best thing we have ever bought. Lambed three quarters of the sheep outside for the first time. Lambing has been a piece of pee and I'm putting it down to the feeders. Sheep in good condition only had one prolapse ( usually get a lot) never had sheep as settled. I was saving two hours a day from just feeding sheep . Will be buying a couple more next year and lambing everything outside!!

Used one of these this year whole oats worked perfectly tried putting a 20%blend in it kept bridging up and any moisture would cause some ingredients to swell and block the slot! Now got ewes feeding 150 grams a day one side and lambs adlib creep pellets on the other side.liking the versatility of the feeder may try finishing some hoggs later in the year with it!

Has any one got a 500? different shape.
We are thinking of trying one flock with creep and getting them gone earlier.

We have a 500 which is fine. If it's not too wet I can push it with the quad to move to fresh ground.
I think the only drawback is you can't use them for cattle.
Also you don't have to assemble them as they come ready built.
