A2 Milk & Butter

Mrsadeptandy is gluten & dairy intolerant, a horrible combination that has made food a challenge.
Recently discovered the dairy side of her intolerance is due to the A1 protein so tentatively exploring the A2 dairy products.
Question is, where can we purchase them ?
Anyone on here supply ?

Don't know about actual products, but Jersey and Guernsey milk is A2 apparently.
Which leads me on to Ocado/M&S.......

There is a farm here in Shropshire that has been A2 producers for some time now ! I believe there used to be a group that sort of represented them but not sure of its actual name !

I can find out for you ,because I know he used to post it but the distance for you is not practical . You may very well have some producers nearer

Sadly, not all Jersey and Guernsey milk is A2A2. When we tested our Jersey cows,most were,but not all. The ones that weren't were the nearest to OP ones genetically. A greater proportion of Guernsey cows are A2A2,but still not all. Mrs Bt and I have differing opinions on this. She is all for it and will only use the A2A2 milk for her ice cream,whereas I think that the consequences of a lactose intolerant person consuming the wrong type can be so unpleasant for them,that they are likely to avoid dairy products at all. Near here there is an organic outfit who advertise their milk as A2A2,but when pressed about it had to admit that they had never tested the cows, but were confident that they would be! WTAF?

Thanks for that info, as if she gets a reaction it’s quite heartbreaking watching her suffer for the following days. 😢

There in lies the problem with sourcing A2…. Almost all….isn’t good enough, bit like, may contain nuts, if you’ve got an allergy it like taking poison. 🫣

My thinking was that if say 95% is A2 and 5% is A1 but it's all going into one tank before being made into butter then the percentage of A1 wouldn't be significant. Maybe a too simplistic view though given my very limited knowledge of allergies.
No other breeds are allowed in Guernsey so butter from the Guernsey Dairy should in theory be the safest mass produced product without going to individual or artesian producers.

Appreciate where you’re coming from, but I’m afraid that would more than likely cause a reaction. 😔
It’s good information though and something we can tentatively move forward with 👍

I'd echo @borderterribles advice, and fully scrutinise the producer, there are some that say it's A2 because they have Guernsey or Jersey cows, but when it comes down to it, have never tested. Some years back we tested our jerseys, I think we had 8 at the time, and 3 were A2:A2 the rest were A1:A2, so its not a given that they are A2:A2. For a time we offered the milk separately but it was a complete ball ache. Getting the right cows to come in first which then wound them all up, bottling off their milk separately etc. In the end we stopped doing it. All those that so desperately needed it started buying the 'normal' milk and got on fine, although I'm not suggesting your wife is like that.
There was some research somewhere that said the difference between A1 and A2 was less apparent in raw milk than pasteurised which might be why they drink ours fine.
I don't think you can test the products, it has to be the cow. We took hair samples and sent off to a lab in Ireland.
There is Old Hall Farm in Norfolk who offer A2 milk and butter etc. and post nationwide. Might be worth a try?
