Just looked up how many EU citizens have applied for uk ones, its more than the other way round, hardly a ringing endorsement of the EU šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
If you think how many Brits are in the EU, there should be more EU in the uk than there are.
Most EU citizens are in the uk to work and never were a burden as farage portrayed. Being young they had kids in the school system as well, but a sizable number left after brexit.
Noticeable, the number of ex pat's who never registered are on the boat home , mainly from Spain.

I've just spent over five weeks in hospital after a very serious op, there where quite a few nurses from the EU but far more from elsewhere.
I actually asked a nurse from Portugal while in ICU why come here, her answer was the NHS is far better than working in Portugal or Spain, that seemed to be the general opinion of it.
My surgeon was from Jordan, had another who was dutch and many doctors were not British either, just goes to show many people want to come here still.
Sorry to hear that.
Yes nurses are paid a higher wage in the uk. They also have much higher costs of living. A friend's daughter works in the NHS as a senior nurse. EU nurses are being replaced by Asians as EU nurses return to the EU.

The girl from Portugal said working conditions and security of employment were much better here than in Portugal. She also said training was more accessible here to gain more qualifications etc. I guess we are a more attractive place due to language

I don't live in Portugal so can't comment on their healthcare.
Lots of Portuguese working abroad, poorer country than a fair few. CBA to look up where they come in western Europe.
English is the international language of Business , Banking and Aviation. It's taught all over.

Isnā€™t the gaffer such a cuddly guy. Signs the nation up to complex deals, expecting the other side not to apply what has been agreed to by him. He of course, has no intention whatsoever to implementing what has been agreed, and so has no apparent difficulty in believing or hoping, others would do the same. Agreements to him, are nothing more than sticking plasters, to cover over the wounds he daily inflicts on the reputation of the country.
If nothing else, this weeks shenanigans on the NI Protocol, shine a search light right to the heart official Perfidious Albion. The world now looks on, at one of the most untrustworthy governments on earth.

Untrustworthy governments, think he got serious competition with the New Zealand and Canadian governments!!! #FJT #FJA

Hunt wrote a roadmap to sell it, Rishi was in the US talking to healthcare providers when he was caught out with a non dom wife. Follow the money.
It's already got privatised services,
Ah so private companies providing services that they have to compete to get the contracts to provide, that's not selling anything. My wife is a health visitor , she now works via virgin healthcare who won the contract by charging less than it was costing the trust to run itself, the change in working practices ie using laptops to input data etc instead of paper forms has saved each staff member several hours a week, they now have a central hub which they can use if needed but most dont as everything is online, previously each town had a number of staff with offices and office staff which cost huge amounts of money.
I am a huge supporter of the NHS but it has to change from the dinosaur of old fashioned thinking and cost. We need an honest non political debate on how we modernise it .

When you sell off a national health service or industry , it's privatised. If it's so fantastic why are so many people having to go Bupa for scans that here would be done there and then or within 24 hours. You sound like you got good service, and rightly so, but not everyone gets that, it depends where you live. Got two friends going through the system now and one gave up and went private as he couldn't stand the pain.
The NHS should have cross party continuity , not changing plans with each government.

If you sell something off you get money for it, nothing has been sold, there are several reasons why the nhs is under pressure.
1 we have an aging population which is causing demand to rise rapidly, also we have a poor state of health throughout the age profile again causing problems.
2 the cost of pfi agreements signed during the blair years is a huge drain on funding, the total cost over a number of years is mind blowing compared to the government funding it them selves.
3 pension costs for staff is huge my wife's pension is very generous and is multiplied by huge numbers of staff.

Hospital staff blame gp's for a lot of the problems as they just dont want to see people do they, as I did went straight to A&E when you become ill,
Government policies do cause problems, when I was taken by ambulance from one hospital to another at midnight the driver told me the government ( not sure which one) had told the NHS they couldnt have patients from A&E in corridors as it was bad press so now when they are busy patients are brought in for assessment then put back in ambulances until they get treated or space becomes available, this then stops ambulances going to help other people. Absolutely mental

I agree with all that but it'll be the bargaining chip for a us trade deal.

I seem to recall a red bus declaring Brexit would deliver staggering amounts of money to the NHS. Chap called Boris as I recall was the bus conductorā€¦.

I hope that it isnt and is just media and labour mischief making, it's a wonderful institution which should be beyond politics, the whole country needs to be involved in how we deal with the challenges it faces. From my recent experience it's the gp system that is a major part of the problem.
