Alternative ways to store cereals.

We might have 20-30 acres more than we need this year so a spring cereal is a thought. However we don't have any bins or sheds or even small silage pit to store it.

What other alternatives. Crimp into an ag bag presume have to watch rats.

Lay a wrap of concrete just make a heap of crimped grain, you could always put some pannels round at a later date probably get a grant on a shed if it’s in the right place. You’ll only have 60tn at the most

Treat the grain with caustic so it’s vermin proof and can be stored outside on plastic sheeting , bale straw to keep or sell

How much is caustic now?
Used to do 100s of tonnes years ago, but moved onto crimp as it was a lot less labour intensive and far safer.

Don’t know as we didn’t use it last year but it’s not too bad using the feeder wagon to mix.
Agree that it’s nasty stuff but it does get you out of a storage hole when necessary

Crimp it into maize clamp, then mix it with maize when you harvest it
I see you’re a big advocate of this quite a lot on here in regards to mixing grains in with forage. Seems like a logical idea. Spread it across the clamp with the loader as the contractor pushed the maize in? Do you just have a rough guess as to how much is in a grab full when you’re feeding out? I like the simplicity of it.

Did it with brewers grain into grass silage heap when we were conventional. Worked well and adjusted moisture to mop up liquid. Challenge to drive over when clamping!
