We just turn it over with the twin rotor rake and one side left up abit
Yes you can get it so your rake arm almost matches your forward speed so the rake arm is doing less flicking more just movingI use the same, very low revs are the secret, gently moving it over.
I’ve only done 20 acres with a demo rotary combine but from what I can see you can make good straw by slowing the rotors but it comes at the cost of output.I remember having the job years ago, to chop about 200ac of straw off an early Rotary combine, that the straw buyer had not taken seriously when told to crack on and bale it.... several tedding passes had not dried it out.
Horrible machines on straw...
Which kind of removes the primary reason for having one I guess?I’ve only done 20 acres with a demo rotary combine but from what I can see you can make good straw by slowing the rotors but it comes at the cost of output.
I had to do just this with straw from a big header and me with an old Krone baler, with a 4ft pickup!!With care you can split a big straw swath in two with a haybob - bit more manageable.
As someone has already said, don't do anything unless you are fairly sure you will get it - rain plus turned straw usually equals wet muck.
