Probably knows the ley is being done to get rid of it, and is sticking two fingers up. Clever old weed.Same here in a new ley. No idea why it heads so early in the first year of a ley!
Don't cut it untill it has set seed but that seed isn't viable it will die then if you cut too soon it will regrow and drop viable seed before you do second cutDo I get a prize?

At what point is that roughly ?Don't cut it untill it has set seed but that seed isn't viable it will die then if you cut too soon it will regrow and drop viable seed before you do second cut
Usually we cut for haylage between the 20 th may and the 7 June, the later you go the more risk of some viable seed but it does work well. Usually we use westerwold for one year but have allowed it to seed last year so keeping it for a second year, looks good atmAt what point is that roughly ?
Going to mow it next?Sprayed this wheat/black grass off this morning, will not be planting wheat here again
No too wetGoing to mow it next?
If you wait for the optimal timing then it peas down for 2 weeks you are back to square one .Don't cut it untill it has set seed but that seed isn't viable it will die then if you cut too soon it will regrow and drop viable seed before you do second cut
Yes obviously a close eye on the weather is needed,If you wait for the optimal timing then it peas down for 2 weeks you are back to square one .
I would cut early if there was a break in the weather rather than chance it.
