Blues on jersey crosses

@GenuineRisk what do you think of this bull?

View attachment 901550

He’s a Heterozygous bull, so unless you’re breeding him to a polled breed, not everything he sires will be polled.

As I understand it, the polled gene in this line goes back to a Hereford - it is a BrItish bred bull (as opposed to the Canadian Ideal herd polled Blues). The genetics for polled in Blues is extremely limited and the competition between the AI companies is fierce at the moment. We’ve got a couple of pedigrees in calf to the homozygous Belgian Blue bull, Blackbeard and we’ve seen a couple of pedigree bull calves in Belgium by him and they were seriously good calves, better than any of the other polled bulls we’ve seen.

One ’issue’ though, that the Belgian’s have overlooked is that some of these Pp bulls carry the scur gene, which is separate to the polled gene. So, here, you can’t transport scurred cattle and polled cattle together. Some of the scurs we saw were quite significant. As soon as there’s a decent white polled bull available, I’ll guess we’ll be using it!

@GenuineRisk Newpole Kudos calves hitting the ground here at the moment and they are spot on nice solid strong calves that are popping out no problem, a real credit to all those involved.
Just put in an order for more👍

Sorry haven’t logged on for a while! Glad to hear the NewPole boys are doing the job well for you. We’re flushing our top cows next week and will be using a polled white bull, Daim, on Harriet, dam of Kudos, Kojack etc. so fingers crossed she flushes well and we can implant some..

Game Changer! If its Harriet is it a contract flush for Genus?

Not this time, flushing for us then she’s contracted for an Irish company. She doesn’t flush large numbers, which we prefer as they usually stick better. We only use Male se Ed semen on her for contract flushes now, so this flush is using conventional as we domt mind getting daughters from her by different bulls!

We are calving to him at the moment , very pleased with him , calve very easily and grow on very well . He is the best blue bull we have used since Newpole Easy , we have tried quite a few different ones but this is the only one that is as good as Easy , how much are they asking for him at the moment ?

That’s good then. 👍. £9 at the moment.

I know they rate LinchPin highly, so use with confidence he’ll do the job well for you !

Cogent have three on calving survey currently from us - NewPole Nice One, Notable and Obviously. last two are full brothers by their former AI bull, NewPole Icon out of NewPole Easy’s full sister, NewPole Lilibet. Nice One is also by Icon but a naturally calved son of a Belgian Import cow we purchased back in 2012. That cow has just been flushed for an Irish company, giving 10 embryos for export.

A further two NewPole bulls may enter their stud in January but we have to have a whole herd Tb test next month, so who knows! 🤞🤞🤞

Would you not pre movement test the bull 1st to get him out the way?
Working on the theory that the less you test the better chance of being clear?

We can’t because we’re a High Health Herd - we’d have to have two registered separate holdings, with full isolation facilities, for our white bulls, so it makes it very difficult. We’ve a few going to Genus too. If we had the money, not saying we’d wouldn’t go for that but don’t have that sort of spare cash at the moment. Investing heavily in High Health South Devons as recips at the moment!

Just getting the first of our kojak’s being born now, they are pretty big with big front shoulders, hope they arn’t all as big as I’ve got another 50 to come, seem harder than Newpole Easy. What’s everyone else’s experience of kojak? Is kudo’s any easier calving?

We start on valentines day, what cows you running? We have a stock order of 40 kojack straws a month for 10 months so will have around 600 straws in varying degrees of cooking
