Today I’ve been to pick up a machine I’ve bought I was sold it under the impression it’s new but in stock. Anyway get it home and find out it’s an October 2018 built machine. As said machine has never been used and is a current model it was a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than his competitors for a 2020 machine. Am I right to be a bit put out and wanting some discount or a 2020 machine? This is a dealer I’ve never dealt with before but have opened a new depot 20 miles from me. Rep is very apologetic and trying to sort something but higher up won’t budge I think it’s a genuine mistake on his part and he’s very new to ag sales!

whats the value?
if it was a couple of hundred pounds cheaper and it cost £1000, then thats different to a couple hundrod off £30,000.
You missed the 4th option off the survey "stop worrying about it and move on"

Whats written on the invoice?

Farm machinery is generally manufactured based on a yearly plan based on predicted sales. As demand is not level throughout the year machines are often manufactured in 2018 that are to be sold by dealers in 2019. In other words it's often a batch build process. Sometimes 3 to 4 batches in a year. Or if a low volume item just one batch. If the manufacturer has produced more than the dealer demand then some stock can sit at the manufacturer for 6 months or so. The dealer also may also secure stock and have a seasons supply of machinery in his yard. If both are not following first in first out in stock management then an older batch may get sold later than a newer batch. Thus a 2018 machine being sold new in late 2020 or early 2021.
In my opinion you should be entitled to some additional discount based on the factor of future trade in. You trade the machine in at 3 years old but the plate says 5 or 6 you may get less for the machine.

I would expect the value to be lower as it is technically shopsoiled or old stock in my view and will suffer more in depreciation terms.
However, the dealer may have given you a blinding deal in the first place which took those factors into account. What is it, and how much discount was given? You and the dealer need to be straight with each other.

it also depends what your part ex price was, compared to what the other dealer was offering for a "new" machine a couple of hundred pounds more expensive.

New machine £13300
Part ex £3000
Fert spreader? How much less than a 2021 version? Should be a grand maybe? If they have sold it at nearly 'new' price and have made a bigger margin then I wouldn't be happy tbh, but you may have to suck it up or not get your new machine for a bit!

Yes I’ve got a thread up about it so wouldn’t take much finding out what machine it is 🤣🤣
