Stores were easier yesterday in selby that the month before
But a lot of sellers are down to their last draws.

Would you not be better showing a loss for one year and keep the barley, but then it would show in your valuation so no difference really. Or was it cash flow?Normally do that, but with the shocking wheat yields/ failure last year I had to sell 150tonne of barley in November to balance the books. Got to buy another 20t this week (will make it 60 tonne purchased) but I’m hoping, with most of my cattle ready to go imminently, that I won’t have to buy much more before harvest
Cash flow, it was 100% out of necessityWould you not be better showing a loss for one year and keep the barley, but then it would show in your valuation so no difference really. Or was it cash flow?
I agree with you. It doesn’t take many weeks to thin the glut outI think they will go back up in 5/6 weeks time just a bit of a glut at the minute with people emptying sheds
As will stores double there have been so many sold in the last two months men are full but stronger cattle will dry up overnight and the big boys on the volume bonuses will have to fight it out. In 25 years I can’t remember stores being either cheap or plentiful in JuneI think they will go back up in 5/6 weeks time just a bit of a glut at the minute with people emptying sheds
The next year or two will sort the beef job one way or the other the way suckler herds are disappearing around here they just won't be thereAs will stores double there have been so many sold in the last two months men are full but stronger cattle will dry up overnight and the big boys on the volume bonuses will have to fight it out. With barley increasing daily and cattle prices either the same or 5p off ,how long before the cattle go.
Lots of close at finishing cattle won’t get too see grass. Keep them forced and gone. My bulls never see grass full stop, although I’m running them well down onto tick over until the job stabilises.Barley at the height of the grass growing season in the UK?
I take it everyone has more cattle than they have land for, if feed needs to be bought in?

Farmer economicsI cant get my head around people who cost their home grown ration at what it cost them to produce. Surely you should be costing it at market price, discount a little to take into account knock offs etc, as that's what you could sell it for without the hassle of putting it through a beast first where the margins are not that great as it is
You can make them work anyway you want to make yourself feel better .....or worse !Farmer economics
Correct !You can make them work anyway you want to make yourself feel better .....or worse !
All my costings are done at what it could be sold for approximately, however you always get people who don't do costings properly, I have a friend who takes cattle into Thirsk (about 25 mile round trip) for no cost as he does it himself.I cant get my head around people who cost their home grown ration at what it cost them to produce. If you jump in and out of something you tend to miss the good bits thoughAll my costings are done at what it could be sold for approximately, however you always get people who don't do costings properly, I have a friend who takes cattle into Thirsk (about 25 mile round trip) for no cost as he does it himself.
You also get the farms who will now go out or nearly out of cattle as barley is to dear to feed and find it easier to sell, then when barley goes below £150 you find them back in the store rings buying cattle again.
Then you get others who just keep going with similar numbers all year round regardless of feed costs at £120 or £200. It does make you splutter a bit though at £200/tonne !!!!
