Change of career.

I honestly wouldn’t know, I enjoy farming but I’d prefer the large arable side rather than being tied to cows every day. Unfortunately Dumfries and Galloway doesn’t lend itself to this.

Away from farming my passion is cars so I’d like to do something with them, (not a mechanic though) and just keep my tractor for helping out contractors at busy times as and when I wanted to.

My change of career for a day was to a dry stane dyker ontop of the world in a almost but not quite neighbouring valley , my mate took a big job on for one man and he helps me a lot so I’m helping him , it’s a rather enjoyable experiance in this weather .

Bit of a spin on this.
I fix trains and would love to have been a farmer!
Suppose I will just keep " hobby farming" until I win the lottery (that I don't actually do)

What does fix trains entail? Is it an engineering role or a maintenance and repair type of job in a workshop. Sounds interesting. At least you don’t get any steering issuess…..

My friend drives trains. The level of inspections, maintenance and electronics these days I can't think is far off from what much of the aviation industry has to do! There are sensors alongside many tracks that 'listen' for dodgy train wheels!

Seen them on a few trains programs plus the converted train that runs up and down the country monitoring track gauge and spotting bad spots and faults

Spent 24 years doing everything you need to do to keep a locomotive going, hydraulics, air, engines, electrical and anything and everything.
Now work on a maintenance desk advicing drivers when the fail and sorting out maintenance etc.
It's been a good job and very kind to me in the way of health and wealth but I just yearn to be outside with my dogs and sheep, putting up fences and using machinery.
I have no family farming connections and do this as my only proper hobby.
Suppose some might say I am lucky?

Already there, aren't you? :ROFLMAO:

The only (?) Industry in which the women earn more than the men.....

Interestingly, I was watching something on Ch5 recently where a young lady out of Love Island (which, I hasten to add is NOT Anglesey) was now earning between £20-70k per month from something called "Only Fans" where she got her kit off (or most of it) for the paying "fans". If you wanted a PM from her, that costs too.

Mad world.

That photo is pointing towards Eyemouth, we could see the sea but dosent show up in the pics .
Is the old railway line in the photo that ran up the North Tyne to Riccarton junction then on to Hawick? How far to Cheviot ewes/Half bred breeding ground at Adderstonshiels/Earlside Whitehill?
