Charge per hour. Not seen any thing on here about mechanic charges per hour. Lets start, i had a fuel problem with my tractor so i rang my main dealer, he sent out a mechanic and he cured the problem in 1 hour. One month later he sends the bill, 2 days ago i got it, am still in shock. The details are charge for time £115.00. Journey time £20.00. Consumables £4.00. VAT £27.80. Total bill £166.80. Any one going to mitigate my shock?

Only ever had a bill once with consumables. refused to pay. knocked off straight away, paid what I owed. and told them that was the last cheque they would ever have. never had anything from them again. total scam.

Consumeables and environmental charge are added to every bill we get from certain main dealer. 10 quid on every bill sent adds up very quick. Don't often pay it as old filters or oil are left on farm. Other one is charge for an hours traveling time from dealership when the guy himself arrived on farm from 5miles away. Again every bill will have charge that they came especially from yard. 😠

Mechanic friend told the story of when he worked for a main dealer. Him and his mate went out to change a clutch on a tractor. .They went at it, and did the job in less than 90 minutes. Went back to base, and told the boss, he went furious , don't you ever do something like that again!

I don't see why. Job would've been charged out at standard scheduled rate for that job and the fitter and his mate would free to do another job.

I take it your car hasnt broken down lately and you have had to have the garage come out to fix it at your home.... That sounds cheap compared!!!!

OH was stuck last week and she’d left her lights on for 45 mins, whilst using her laptop in a lay-by (health worker)
Flat battery for a Nissan Juke
I was 100 miles away
So called RAC
Duff battery diagnosed (been perfect beforehand[emoji85])
So instead of a jump start with a portapak and told to run the car for 30 mins to recharge the battery
They advised a new battery which they conveniently had on board [emoji85]
£200 please and duly fitted it (would have been £80 from Eurocarparts)

£115/hr reflects the training, overheads etc that allows it to take just an hour and solve the problem.
