Common sense bypass

Posting on local Facebook from someone who decided it would be good idea in heavy snow to go Christmas shopping in Cheltenham, driving over some of the highest roads with steep hills in the north Cotswolds, probably in a car with carpet slippers for tyres, with inevitable consequences.

Posted asking if a local farmer with a tractor could come and help him as he was stuck and also had a 7 month old in the car and no food, etc, and needed help urgently.

So yes, of course your local friendly farmer will be straight out to help you because you are a complete idiot and probably the first to complain in the summer when he gets stuck behind a grain cart.

Now just waiting for the posting complaining about what a miserable bunch local farmers are because no-one was prepared to drop everything and dash out to rescue him!

I won't pull them out anymore since I pulled one and a fairing came off on the bank of the ditch and he blamed me for that.

I pulled a cop patrol car out once. Though it would bring me some good Khama but did it f eck. I dug the snow out under his rear bumper to find a tow point the pulled it out. Only words of gratitude I got was thanks for doing your civic duty. Next time he’s late for the doughnut shop and spins out and plants it in a snow bank he can stay there. Two speeding tickets later that year too Live and learn.

Only pulled cars out of the snow in previous times because they were blocking my way off the farm. Did get a bottle of champagne of one a local ex diplomatic ,he was only stuck on ice cause the other car was driven by a twit

Oh well time for a last swim, sauna and roast in the steam room before breakfast, then fight the way back to suffolk from snowy Essex

Last car I pulled out,I had a knock on door one Sunday night and I was in bath.anyway driver gone on ditch could I give him a pull.went and unlocked farm, got tractor and drove to stuck car and proceeded to pull him out but then his car would not start as he had left his lights on,only a very narrow road so I pushed the car and he bump started it and he drove off.last I ever saw of him.another when beast from east 4 years ago I was snow clearing in local village helping community like you do and man stopped me and asked if I’d take him 5 miles to get his car.i was in my telehandler so it never happened.he said he would sit in bucket on the front.ffs.as mentioned these are people who probably complain about farmers aswell.just ask for a large charity donation before getting tractor out now.I’m sure a breakdown truck would cost upwards of £250 which is the other option.

I don't reckon his strategy would have worked in the Mendips.

1. Locals don't have phones, much less facebook. They still rely heavily on carrier pigeons and ravens.

2. If the locals did manage to locate a stranded idiot, they would no doubt eat him. The horseless carriage would be torched once the fascinating reflections of the sun on the windows wore off.

3. The 7 month old would be taken back and reared amongst the others- assuming there was enough food to survive the winter.

Not afraid to say no any more. Get people ring us up at stupid hours and sound surprised when we ask if it can wait till the following day or tell them to ring their breakdown cover first.

Started having money up front now as well. So many have had our details, I'm talking big hire firms and we never see or hear a peep.

Thing is we'll do anyone a favour or help out in times of need. But there's so many pee takers about now your patience and want to help starts to wear thin. I do endless amounts for charity so do more than my bit anyway. Wouldn't like to start adding up all the unpaid hours we've done pulling people out of places.

Funny enough I pulled some poor sod that went head first into a ditch in the snow this afternoon. There was a chap with a truck about to attempt it but felt better with me weighted right up and the trimmer on. Lucky for the van driver the chap in the truck offered my time for free without me opening my mouth because 'It's christmas'.....

Last time I pulled someone out after he’d gone through the fence I mistakingly took a cheque off them which was made of rubber…now they stop where they are unless payment has the kings head on it or I’ve insurance details

Get your expectations right. If I pull someone out I expect nothing. If I expected something I’d make it clear up front. It’s pretty simple.

I don’t hook up to cars etc. I might offer guidance and advice but they hook it up so when something rips off it’s not on me. Lots of cars are nearly impossible to tow without damage

I pulled two out last night.
One was an Amazon driver who I felt sorry for, he was a Romanian and said he had told the firm that he needed better tires, but they didn't understand he said.
The other one was going to see an ageing relative but couldn't of course get back out. They said they will drop me in some drink, I will give them a few days to deliver it!!!
