I was - certainly I call it wholecrop- spring barley usually cut around 2nd -3rd week of July when straw is no longer green but grain can be spread between ginger and thumb. Works well in our rationI thought we were talking about wholecrop
I seen rye grass type whole crop cut in June with a straight mower then chopped,You could but you wouldn’t want to do it with a mower conditioner really as it would hammer the crop plus picking up a 10ft swath with a spf be bloody painful so you’d need to rake it which again would hammer the crop plus stones as @mtx.jag says hence the need for direct cut headers.
I’m sure some people do mow it to chop and obviously they do to bale it
It's farmers choice when mowing or chopping startsdid the contractor force the farmer to mow such a short crop?????, and if he didn't then why is he being robbed, the contractor is only doing his job, and if its a light crop and can go fast that not his fault
