contractors want to roll

I've bought a set of NRH paddle rollers with extra cultivation tines . It's on around 200hp cvt with 710s at 14psi , too high but the rollers can take a hold and we have hills we need to roll in breaks , so don't want a tyre off the rim . Pretty heavy winter ploughed soils and I'm only sitting around 6kph to save getting thrown about in the cab . According to the tractor computer it's averaging under 5litres a hec which seems very low . I can't get anywhere near this with a 3m power harrow although that is making a finer job .

Used to sow behind a 4.6m unipress which I really rated but the rollers have surprised me how well they are doing but the unipress would work in stickier backend conditions which the rollers will clag up in but for spring stuff they seem ideal .

That roller is making a good job with tines then paddles what will you do next?

what is the advantages of rolling ploughed ground before drilling, one pass power harrow.
contractor turned up yesterday and wanted to roll the ploughed fields before sowing barley
land was ploughed jan-feb time and is firm enough.
asked him to put on a front press if concerned
Is there any advantage to it ? with the price of diesel :(
You're the customer.

If you want it rolled then you ask him not the other way round ? Land ploughed for months that's had plenty weather on it will be more than firm enough to one pass and anything fresh ploughed pulling the rollers over it will just put another set of unnecessary wheel marks into it for no real reason 🤷‍♂️

we rolled some of it, maybe half the barley fields, but cant see much difference in speed or acres covered per hour.
There is some wheel marks on the lighter fields where the rolls have been but told him we dont want to be doing this next year.
We'll certainly look at a plough press next year if it suits our conditions.
The weather broke so only got 3\4 in so far

Not sure about this?
You may be right, but all modern coaches are now geared to cruise at about 1200rpm for fuel economy.
Surely as long as an engine is under some load (not just idling) then lower revs will use less diesel?

But I stand to be corrected.

Most engines will have graphs looking like this where the best fuel economy is roughly between 12 and 1500.
Extrapolate the graph down to 800 and idle is worse than 2100 rpm.
