I'm after some opinions on what I've put together in my head after some thought on a herbal ley mix to hit the gs4 specification, I havent seen a mix that I'm 100% happy with and suits my needs, far too many seem insistent on adding crap like oxeye daisies into the mix.
In my head I've come up with the following:
5kg perennial ryegrass (2kg intermediate 3kg late)
2kg festolium
1kg cocksfoot
1kg timothy
1kg tall fescue
1.5kg red clover
1.5kg birdsfoot trefoil
0.5kg alsike clover
0.5kg lucerne
0.25kg sheeps parsley
0.25kg yarrow
0.25kg sheeps burnett
0.25kg chicory
0.5kg plantain
To give a total of 15.5kg/acre sown (I would prefer to go a little heavier than a standard 13-14 kg ryegrass mix)
Thoughts? Seed merchants (of which there are plenty on here!) are welcome to quote but please note I've had my grass seed from the same guy for several years and you'll be hard pushed to beat him, but do try if you wish! I need 12 acres now and will want another 30ish acres later for autumn sowing.
I would be using it for grazing dairy cows on with occasional cutting for silage if it gets ahead of them. Want plenty of nitrogen fixing in there but my idea for having so much birdsfoot trefoil in there was to hopefully help avoid bloat from the clover and lucerne.
Thankyou
