Hi,
I'm looking to put an RTK system on our tractor for drilling. We have a Kubota M7 tractor which is autosteer ready.I have googled RTK but don't really understand everything. We are based in West Herefordshire and would like to install a system. There seems to be established companies such as Topcon,Trimble JD Greenstar along with European and Chinese offering cheaper products but not sure they would provide the backup.I know there are various ways to install RTK by using a base station or VRS which gets a correction signal from other base stations, am I correct in saying that ?
I really don't understand it being an old dinosaur so any advice as would be gratefully received.Do I go for an established company or look at cheaper options ?
Thanks.

Im also a dinosaur when it comes to this technology but a can tell you that we have 2 systems at the moment ,the older puma and combine share a greenstar system which is on the latest dome but older screen and that is quite capable of drilling (not the combine tho:)) and is not RTK and the Puma which tugs a 6 m vaddy isnt on RTK either , its good enuff for us and puts my driving to shame

Hi.
speak to Chris Limb at LH agro. I think they have fitted topcon systems to steer ready Kubota. You may even find they have their own base near you.

Im abit like you, I got a Trimble system and went with rtx and for drilling I would say it’s plenty accurate enough
also know of contractors using for drilling , veg work I presume you’d be better on rtk

Which RTX? There are four accuracy levels of RTX.

If you are not doing any land leveling or tiling and just need the RTK for horizontal accuracy, i would recommend a trimble GFX-750 (or 350) with a Nav-900 and Centerpoint RTX Standard. The convergence time for satellites is under 15 mins and only requires an intermediate accuracy license, compared to Centerpoint Fast which will require a full RTK accuracy license, but converges satellites in under 1 min. This is completely satellite based sub inch level correction and requires no additional hardware (modems, radios, base stations, or antennas). You can also try this before you buy it with a free demo. Most people are going to this system over legacy RTK systems today. The legacy products are still needed and used for water management.
