Docks in reseed

A spring reseed is a gift as far as killing docks is concerned.
I haven't put clover in a reseed for about 10 years, I stitch clover in after weed control is carried out, which is well worth it when you consider how expensive and ineffective clover safe products are.

I try not to cut grass in it's first season if possible, it gives undesirable species a better chance to establish by weakening root structure and limited tillering.

I'd wait for a strong flush of weeds, the down side is that it will take more water per ha I'd the canopy gets heavier.
I rarely go with less than 200lt when spraying thick grass, and sometimes go to as much as 300lt.
The mix is called Mingary from Watson's. I asked for the price difference between clover and not. Without the clover was more expensive ?‍♂️

Is Mingary the seed mix for upland north facing slopes? If it is i have a field, must be 7 year old now and is going strong. It comes early in the spring considering its at 1000ft on a north facing slope and is lying up against the forest. Would recomend for that situation.

I’d spray it. Sheep too soon will tiller it but also could b4gger it up if they start pulling on it. The tillering will only hide the gaps left by weeds and sheep damage but will leave a thicker ley.
Polo and a shot of fluroxy will sort all those weeds (fat hen included!) and all that expensive seed will have a fighting chance

As I have said many times, those two products in combination, done early, nobble the weeds and let the grasses establish themselves, taking up all the available space which will help keep it weed free for a long time.

Did they give you a reason for that?
I'd say that's a bit off considering they mix it themselves there.
I got exactly that mix last year and it worked out pretty much the same price with the clover coming in it's own bag.
No I just assumed it was because they would have to make a special mix without clover
Was my price about right?

i learnt it from you...... I thought you’d be getting bored keep repeating yourself!

it does work very well and doesn’t cost much at all considering the benefit.

Brilliant result!! Do you remember the germination time. My seed has been in the ground 3 weeks and not a lot to be seen in the dead grass areas.

How much rain have you had? I DD'ed Redstart into sprayed out pp with a Simtech 5-6 weeks ago now. It came OK in most places, a lot got droughted out. Slugs and flea beetle would have taken the rest if I hadn't used pellets and sprayed it. The damper parts of the field hung on, but the recent rain has changed things dramatically. Some seed is only just emerging now, so considering whether to go in with more pellets (I can see a bit of damage again).

My fodder beet was precision drilled in early May and that's the same. Some plants well established and romping away, but a lot just emerging now and playing catch up.

Any slug damage, or have you used pellets at all? We have had stacks about here all Spring (& last Autumn come to that), but if you’ve had warm rain straight after drilling like that the crop would likely outgrow them......maybe.

impatience or drilled too deep would be my guess.

Could sowing it the day after spraying have any ill effects?

Sprayed my swedes twice for flea beetle at the end of may haven't seen damage to the rape that has appeared so far. Just a very poor emergence over the grass area. It's dissapointing when you pay a contractor and put you're trust in his expertise and machinery.

Hopefully not i was advised to sow as close to spraying as possible roundup shouldn't have any residual effect i'm led to believe.

I sprayed some grass off on Saturday and DD’ed some grass/crimson clover yesterday.
Must be near perfect conditions as the grass has got a yellow tinge already and the clover in the slots has already chitted.

Where I broadcast the same mix, and maincrop turnips, onto disced ground last Wednesday, then rolled after, it’s already up.

Just hope everything survives the mini-heatwave now and Autumn/Winter fodder supply will suddenly look less worrying.:)
