Contractor that puts in our silage and I help out hardly ever moves the spout filling on the left usually start at the back in dry weather, if wet put some in the front, fill the back up almost full pull forward and fill the front nearly full go to the back again and move forward slowly you’ll be full by the time the spout reaches the front.
Trailer driver always has to fill his own load here some better at it than others

The chopper driver fills the trailers here. Spout positioned near middle of trailer and you drive along same place. He has a better view than tractor driver as well.
That is why the spout can move otherwise what does the chopper man do all day?
As for auto- steer linked to the tractor, forget that with telegraph poles, knowes and sudden steep bits I want to be in control of my own destiny.

GPS is a godsend when power-harrowing at night when you can't see fudge all in any of the fields of the work lights because of dust. A telegraph pole in front you can spot no problem, but finding the line of the previous pass can be a nightmare.

Years ago we tried side filling with trailed chopper
I like filling my own load, gives me something to think about, a very boring day otherwise just sitting in one place making sure I’m in line with the foragers wheel etc
trailer driver thought he should be filling the trailer he spent that much time looking behind it wasn’t safe and spilled more grass when he wondered off track.it’s the chopper drivers job 😂

Never fully fill the front, always have it so I can see the back and then fill from back to front, if on a longer draw, I pull as close as possible so the grass is more or less coming straight down, then let the harvester man top it off
If feed is spilled, is it your fault if you're filling the trailer yourself?
I just think it's better for the forager driver to do it as they should have responsibility for the standard of the infield job.

Don't get me started on people who change trailers on the move.

Why would any be spilled apart from when the harvester driver tops it off at the very end?

You wouldn't think there would be but there is, no need to spill at the end either just don't over fill it. You wouldn't do it with a combine and grain trailer. I don't get why so many think it's ok with a forager, especially a contractor's machine.
Just watch a few Grassmen videos.

Just a pet hate of mine.

Especially annoying when you are heading away from the gate and an empty trailer is following

Trailed chopper here, filling on right of the chopper, forager man fills the trailer. Also make the trailers straddle the swaths as it stops them wandering about so much.

I prefer to have the trailer man park it alongside the blower in one spot and stay there no matter what. I tell them it's like the Red Arrows, the guy alongside is just maintaining a position relative to the leader, and I as forager man am the leader.🤣🤣🤣
No matter what, you keep it parked there as best you can, unless I give rhe nod to move. 😎😎
I did once in a fit of exasperation stop half down a rig and tell a trailer man that "if I wanted to aim at a f**king moving target I'd have gone f**king clay pigeon shooting" 🤣🤣
I'm more mellow nowadays!!

Agreed it’s easier for the forager to load the trailers, the best thing the trailers can do is stay planted in one place. Most modern foragers have a long spout with a camera, it’s a doddle to load them fully without the trailer moving from one spot, even loading 18 tonners.

Some of the chopper drivers I know detest seeing spilled forage and would not be impressed if a trailer driver decided to load their own trailer and made a hash of it. Even worse in maize and wholecrop you only get one bite at that cherry. There is just no need to overfill trailers either, locals won't appreciate seeing loads of it on the roads on the way back.
