Guidance on retrofit guidance systems.

What are my options for retro fitting a steering guidance system on an older tractor ('04 Fendt 818)? No I don't want to buy a newer tractor.
What should I be looking out for and what possible issues to be aware of? Looking for a complete easy to operate system with a decent sized screen for ageing eysight for when I forget which fencepost I was supposed to be watching.
Thinking along lines of fieldbee, fj dynamics etc but have been offered a JD kit. Assuming will only need 6" precision for sowing but may want to update in future.

Thank you

If you like a bit of tinkering and like a project look at the agopengps, can buy the components and build it yourself. There are step by step guides for it aswell. Does required a fair bit of soldering and downloading software. Alot cheaper than anything else by a long way

Please go gently, this is like a whole new language to me. Was just looking for a plug and play system to get me started that could be upgradeable as and when required. While I'm happy to tinker computers/software bring me out in cold sweats.

I would suggest FJ Dynamics. It's very easy to use, you can make it as simple as you want it to be and the support from @ERH Services Ltd is really good. And you will need back up at some point with all of them.

Am being advised CHCNAV over FJ which is similar to the sveaverken if using the free egnos signal.
Has anyone experience of using the CHCNAV?

Don’t worry; it really can be as easy as you are hoping. If you’ve been offered a jd kit just go for it. You literally plug it all together and you’re away. The initial installation of the steering wheel is little more than a couple of u-clamps and all the spares (and advice) you can get from your local jd dealer but once you’re going you won’t need them…I’ve never had one fail and have run 3 in the past.

I was told Trimble are about to start ramping the prices up not sure how true that is but it seems silly to me when all these other far cheaper alternatives are pushing through 🤷‍♂️

Trimble have a LONG history / experience with vehicle guidance & earthmoving applications
Trimble are a well established, reputable company
Trimble are not brand specific, can work with any colour machinery
Trimble have extensive service & backup dealerships

why wouldnt you ?

Agreed Trimble have been around ages; I had an early fmx screen with the steering wheel motor grippy thing and a standalone rtk mast and straight-forward it was not. Very clunky in user-friendliness and performance and the dealer never could get to the bottom of why…probably a bad egg of a unit but since going to jd I wouldn’t dream of going elsewhere…
