I’m a retired vet and have done countless over the years. Knocking out is not necessary and can easily be done in a half decent crush especially back feet. As for dressings, change 2 or 3 times and can normally be done by the farmer after first vet change if competent. Some vets appear to like then fully granulated before stopping the dressing but in my experience it makes no difference.

Has anyone had this done? A rear foot in this case and outside half.
Vet says they do about 4 per yea 🤷‍♂️
she will need knocking out every 3 days to change the dressing for over a month. The bill will be exciting 🤔
Favorite old cow so we wouldn’t be doing it otherwise... current calf 9 months old and not in calf🙄.
Just as well this is t a business 😂
Brother does some for the vet every now an then.they use his roll over crate.don't hear any issue's after they've done it.

She’ll be grand. Obviously the other clay has more weight & pressure on it, so will be more prone to ulcers and other problems. If you then get a problem in that clay then you’ve run out of options of course.

Amputating the infected clay has put years on many cows over the years, and certainly better than shooting an otherwise healthy animal.

I was/am wondering if she can support a bull with the one (inner) clay, to get in calf?

Done 2 here in recent times (Dairy cows). £250 total cost including meds. Takes under an hour. Vet popped back out to check and change bandages 1st time, we changed thereafter.

Both cows done another 1-2 years in the herd then we put them away.

Done one years ago that was sold as a cull through the ring a few years after the operation, neighbour bought it, calved it again and kept it for another 8 years.

Well, someone said she won’t be out untill august, she’s been out two weeks now and just while I was looking at them this evening I remembered this thread.
Walking next to the bull, she was “with him” a few days back👍
seems a distant memory now and it was my wife’s project, but I think she was knocked out 6 to 8 times.
She’s making moving the herd around easier already as she was always the leader👍😊

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
