American here. Was listening to Farming Today podcast this morning and they pronounced Herefordshire "hair-uh-furd-shur", which makes sense, I guess. How do you pronounce the beef breed there? We would say "hur-furd" so I assumed that Herefordshire was the same. Learn something new every day I suppose. Here's a picture just for fun.

English has lots of fun and interesting ways to say words - a few for you-

Worcestershire - woost er sher
Leicester - Less ter
Marlborough - Mall brer
Gloucestershire - glos ter sher
Cholmondeley - chum ley

These are just the English ones - there are magnificent examples from Scots and Welsh too.

Whats a Black Baldy I here so much about
That's a cross between a black Angus and a Hereford. You get black hair that the buyers seem to like, and the good traits Herefords offer (temperament, mothering ability, etc). White face and varying white feet, belly, udder, tail switch with black eye patches. Sometimes a white mane. If we could calve out all black bulls and all baldy heifers, we'd be happy!

Leominster, a market town in the north of the county of Herefordshire, is pronounced ‘Lemster’.
Weobley, a pretty village in the west of the county with a lot of half-timbered black and white houses is pronounced ‘Weblee’.
I live in the southwest of Herefordshire, near the Welsh border, and there is a village near us called Bagwyllydiart, pronounced locally as ‘Bag of idiots’.
