As a motorcyclist I wouldn't be put off flying by safety concerns.

Accidents have a lot more to do with the pilot/rider than the machine.

Don`t know exact figures but probably 90% of accidents involving aircraft are pilot error
Usually on takeoff or landing

I suspect after the first hundred hours the accident rate drops dramatically.
Pilot friend said to me microlights are part of natures way of weeding out the idiots
Obviously Dman2 has passed the test

Yes, although E10 is no good
Quicker by car, but looking at the forecast, wouldn`t be able to fly up for at least the next 7 days, or the last 7 days come to that
So not really quicker

Microlights are VFR only
Have to have certain levels of visibility

Could move up to next level, something like a cessna 152/172 etc.
Then do Instrument flying course.
But a lot more expensive
Costs me £10 an hour + plus fuel
Could cost £100 an hour for a larger aircraft

The thing with microlights now is, from @ September last year the MOW was increased from 450kg to 600kg ( which is pretty much what a Light aircraft licence allows you to fly)
Our Skyranger microlight automatically went up from 450kg to 472kg with only a few bits of paper to fill in.
If we wanted then an uprated undercarriage would get us up to 600kg ( would cost about £2000 i think)
