You’ve made me blush. No time, too busy paying for LL new Range Rover and to put other’s kids through private school 😉
Oh Lord make us good but not just yet ..... Years ago we had ground taken off a la di da couple who told the auld fella that their daughter was enrolled at a very expensive school .
He knowing that despite owning a fine farm the were capable of going broke goldmining offered to rent the whole place and offered money up front knowing full well the wouldnt be able to resist .
The landowner was now well hooked as he needed the rent money every year promptly or else his daughter would suffer the indignity of having to " trade down " . The Nuns were ruthless when it came to school fees ..

Well Lord Sainsbury died a couple of months ago so I would be surprised if he makes it into the committee.

Both good points.

I really didn't give more than a few moments consideration to my examples as I was really looking forward to reading other peoples.
It really would be good to know the names of the half a dozen or so people that you thought would be best represent farming.

you can bet your farm that every member of this group with be past or present NFU, RT,AIC, AHBD,VI officers or board members

plus maybe a few supermarket and processor top management

…. or buyers.
Latest on RT board is one John Dracup. Who used to be procurement officer for St Merryn then 2 Sisters - aka Tesco.

Did he ever leave?

Apparently there is a Market management core group which will be industry experts working with government.

If this is a thing, how does it fit into the supply chain team in the cabinet office headed by Sir Dave Lewis ? Or is it one and the same and Sir Dave is now recruiting more members ? Because 'supply chain' and 'market management' seems to have a fair old overlap for Govt to be seeing the need for two separate bodies ?

Minette Batters said she was "really pleased that Defra had pulled together a Market management core group which will be industry experts working with government" , I have not been able to find out any more about it.
Maybe she meant the supply chain team.

I believe he is quite tied up with Innovis which is all about our buyers 'owning' the genetics.
You can see that their long term strategy is basically having to buy your breeding stock from them if you want to supply them. Fait accompli.

From the latest TFA news letter:

TFA Takes Part in Urgent Fertiliser Discussions with DEFRA

In light of the current market conditions, DEFRA’s Farming Minister, Victoria Prentis, has established a fertiliser roundtable which met for the first time at the end of last week. It is intended that the group will meet about once every three weeks. The TFA was represented by its Chief Executive, George Dunn, and other groups attending included NFU, CLA, AIC and AHDB. This initial meeting was intended to gather intelligence about the issues impacting the market and to act as a further springboard for discussions within the supply chain, banks and consideration of what policy options might be available to the Government. The TFA was able to report back on the initial results of its survey of members which indicated that around half of producers were significantly short on the fertiliser they need for the current season and are also concerned about being able to secure sufficient for the next season. The survey remains open for further responses which will be of crucial importance as we continue our discussions with DEFRA. Click here to complete the survey if you have not already done so or if your situation has changed markedly since you last completed it.

Looks like it is a group specific to fertilizer then, which would explain why it is all MB banged on about on any questions. Today's issue for the NFU to whinge about. Yesterday it was 'produced to our standards', tomorrow it will be something else.

I say this is not for our benefit as farmers they just worried about their supply don,t help them to up production ,finally the odds might go in our favour, for those can wether storm ,If short of income get some from outside for a year or so.We need a shortage , to get some sense back. They will soon in time sub fert production when food boats not coming so freely and home production is knocked back.None of governmernt/suppliers/ food firms care 2 s..ts about us.

Thank you.

I'm really not sure what to think about it.

Obviously the price/ supply of fertiliser is a massive issue which needs attention but are farmers just being manipulated to lobby on behalf of CF?

Why has no one mentioned that perhaps its a bad time to be banning urea?

In the light of recent trade deals, we were told to get use to a free market. Does that only apply when imports are cheap?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
