I apologize for being so blunt, I don't have enough skin in the game to comment really, it's just that I just find the whole thing so frustrating. We have been watching this slow motion car crash for decades, we have known the root causes, yet we have allowed every single one of our representative bodies to be complicit. Call me a naive optimist, but I still say that it doesn't have to be this way.

It's not all bad. There are a lot of opportunities for farmers to erect or convert buildings to keep grow/finish pigs on contract, very risk free. A good enterprise to add to a family farm.
There are also some opportunities for people to do contract outdoor breeding. I can think of many examples of new entrants that have built excellent businesses on that model.
