I was interested but then learnt that only 'proper' farmers were welcome. Having been officially declared "not a proper farmer" by the SNFU (my farming ancestors are turning in their graves!) I didn't bother further as I guess I'm probably also one of the "undesirables" mentioned earlier! Am I bovered? Certainly not!:)
As said before do you have a holding number? It's worth supporting/joining for sure. I think before long there might be a more open opportunity to participate without being a member

I engage with farmers every day!!
So I have read in some of the seedier tabloids.

Just be careful what you admit to on here.
It might possibly attract ‘the wrong sort’ if you know what I mean?

People such as Baldrick; who seemingly portray a thin veneer of some social standing and respectability but who are in reality decidedly unsavoury people with whom one wouldn’t wish to associate. 🤧

I'd chuck another few quid at this as a one off, if all of the current members did the same just to try and get the thing launched, it would probably be achievable. And that in itself could be the basis of press coverage - "farmers are so hacked off with the current regime that they're prepared to put their hands in their pockets and create a proper union." Shock horror - could this actually amount to positive collaboration?! Unheard of...
Thanks for your post.
I hope @Vader has enquired how much it would cost to insert the “ British Farming Union” advert as mentioned in his post #51,in the Farmers Weekly and Farmers Guardian as although it would cost a lot
I can’t see BFU getting noticed by farmers who are non TFF members, and who don’t look at social media.
I am annoyed that no one replied to my post asking if retired farmers can join BFU, are we hung out to dry!!

Judging by another thread @Bald Rick is becoming a new man through various ailments... he now has the heart of a lion, lungs of a hippo, memory of an elephant, reflexes of a cat and is now known as hairy Rick. The point in hand, he's never done a bad turn to me, not sure what your gripe is and don't much want to know either...

Nor would I ever want to elaborate LP! Far too graphic for this forum.

Balders and I go back a long long way, to those Hedonistic times when standards were far more liberal and values totally uninhibited.

All my posts are absolutely in jest. He will respond in kind with his own outpouring of suitable vitriol.

The fact that we are both Welsh and thus inherently strange, and always marching to a beat of a different drummer does not mean that we bear each other any animosity.

Quite the contrary, we love each other deeply and I am quite frankly most offended that you are offended by, and seemingly jealous of, our intimate relationship. 🤪 🤓

PS Balders wants to know if you are up for a threesome tomorrow night.

PPS I won’t be there, due to pre arranged kerb crawling commitments in Rhyl: but you are free to choose whomsoever you may wish to join you. 😜

Can't do tomorrow night, so sorry! I'm building a mock torture chamber with a scammer friend who's just joined tff... maybe next week

Cost of a full page ad (so can make a statement) has been looked at and priced up a while ago.
Not cheap so its been a case of waiting for the right moment.
Now BFU has been mentioned in AHDB press release, maybe time to revisit the idea.

retired farmers.. the check if people are farmers was the holding number.
we wanted to be sure we were farmers only and seemed the simplest way to do it.
So guess as retired no holding number?

Thank you much appreciated 👍
I quite understand as very difficult with social media to find out if anyone is really who they make themselves out to be especially those on TFF , enough said 😉

To me this seems like an unease to part with members money to advertise, quite right in a sense that its spent wisely with so much going on. Any good farmer is frugal after all, so the tenner each should be well spent on their behalf.
Advertising BFU and its policy should be a no brainer to all concerned though

a simple stand at livestock markets across the UK would reach a lot of farmers for little cost.

Couple of banners, couple members to be there to talk.

Freebie cuppa/biscuits.

Bet most auctions would not want any payment for the stand space.

.
The Wessex Sale at Shaftesbury is next week. Maybe Simon W. will allow BFU to have a presence?

Tbh, if now isn't the right time, when will it be? IF the NFU is seeing mass resignations currently, they have presented you a recruitment drive on a platter.

You'll have to be ready to accept/process those members that you hope to gain though.

What's the circulation on FW and FG now?
As much as I hate social media (other than TFF!), that seems the way to go.
