TuberLog Electronic Potato

The TuberLog electronic potato is an acceleration measurement device which records impact forces received while moving with real potatoes during harvesting and processing and locates damage and bruise-causing parts of machinery (including washers). It comprises a data logger embedded in a synthetic shape designed to mimic the size, shape and density of a ware potato.
TuberLog registers impacts instantly when they occur both audibly in the operator’s headphones and displayed visually on the screen of an Android tablet. The operator watches the electronic potato as it passes through the machine and can immediately see the exact source of the impact.

Barn Owl Wireless automatic controllers ensure that only air good enough to cool or dry the stored crop is used. Fans start automatically if ambient conditions fall below pre-set limits. Control programmes are selected for each fan via the user’s webpage, allowing energy-efficient independent operation of cooling and drying fans in relation to each crop sensor reading.

Bourgault Tillage Tools’s Versatile Opener System (VOS) has been designed to meet these objectives, offering minimal soil disturbance and reduced wear rates at a lower cost per hectare.

Introduced to the market 4 years ago by Bourgault importer Martin Lishman Ltd, VOS users have reacted positively to the system, seeing more even crop establishment, increased moisture retention and time savings.

Following the decision to adopt VOS, Leigh Donger from Peacock Farm shared his views: “In 2018 we changed to VOS and it was a real game changer! We thought that the knock-on points we were using previously created low disturbance, but the VOS single shoot is something else. I had to check that the field had been drilled, and even questioned the student to make sure he had done the job!”

No stranger to the Bourgault range, Leigh made the move to VOS to gain better control of the fertilizer element: “The main reason we changed was because of how VOS distributes the fertilizer; alternative openers just spray the fertilizer on the soil after the coulter. I wanted the fertilizer to be under the seed or at least under the soil. VOS does just this, plus I can go straight from rape seed to beans without changing anything on the drill leg.”
