A Butcher I supply always works the London market to find bargains which he knocks out to the catering trade or advertises on his Social media pages to keep business going.
Talking to him this morning he was shocked at the price of beef on the market and how little was available. In fact the only "bargain" he managed to find were Ox Tails.

He said that normally after Xmas you get all sorts of stuff that is getting out of date and wasn't sold over the Festive season, also over weight Chickens often appear. He said apart from a small amount of diced mutton there was nothing at all that was discounted.
Pork was very dear.

This certainly bodes well for the sheep and beef trade in the short term.

According to the latest farmers weekly, "meat" is being smuggled into the UK, in massive quantities, from the seizures the customs have done? This meat is coming into the UK, with no "paperwork", no rules or regs, with what disease etc is a great worry? Again open borders ?
Sad , but correct . The 'red meat' black market is rife . Sadly but in reality it shows that red meat is more popular than the officials would like to admit to .
...its not only imports !

Did it have a RT sticker on it...........asking for a friend ! :ROFLMAO:

So what has happened to all this Australian meat that was going to be dumped on us ?

Are you sure that meat was not in short supply to your butcher as no one had caught up over christmas ? Christmas and New Year falling on a Monday does mean there are several livestock markets closed for two weeks.

Yes, in the short term.
Government ducks almost In a row.
Soon be crisis time for them to save the nation with an endless supply of permanent Aus & NZ replacements.

Sheep being replaced by trees. Cattle been going off for years.
Arable guys on here falling over themselves with SFI or whatever it‘s called payment rates down south to not produce food.
Beavers soon be across the whole country damming up ditches to make lamd unproductive.

Countless other carrot & stick polices to get the big landowners to stop producing & pi$$ off most of those left into giving up is the end game.

Meat of all Types is Short!
If the WWF get their 'basket' thing pushed into Red Tractor, aided and abetted by the NFU meat (and dairy) is going to be a lot shorter in the future...

In fact, so will the contributors to the Livestock & Forage pages..

....... 50% less meat and dairy will surely mean one in two of our businesses will cease to exist.

the only saving grace might be the number of farmable acres is reducing & the population is increasing so the proposed reduction might be 50% per capita but not 50% reduction in output

They don't get there by reducing supply, they have to reduce demand, and it doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.
Looks to me like they want to reduce our carbon footprint, to achieve the wet dream that is net zero, and bring it in from abroad.

WWF want us to reduce ours by 50% but are happy to let supermarkets import food that's only had a 33% reduction imposed on it.

been talking with friends for the last 12 months or more, saying we just don't see the numbers of cattle about, it would seem to be true.

makes good reading for farmers here, in the uk. Meat is in demand, and demand is more than supply, hence the strong trade at present.

imported meats, yes they will have an effect, but transport costs are not cheap, and if Suez canal is out, a min 10 day extra transport. And there are growing meat markets, a lot closer than us, for Aus and NZ.
