A farm locally does! They owned the land where a reservoir was built and got a non metered supply. Apparently a neighbour found out and tried to connect in! :ROFLMAO:
Was that part of the deal or 100 quid to a foreman?
We have a 3 foot gas pipe just 300m away but at 100 bar installing a valve will be tricky

In the old days i believe you could negotiate with them more and it was not unheard of for free connections in lieu of wayleaves

Reminds me of a story when they came through with a 3ft gas main here in the 90’s.

Old boy bribed the lads to ‘pop a connection in’ for his house. Money exchanged hands, a sneaky pipe appeared and his gas cooker worked.

All worked well for the next few months after the job was completed and made good, but then it stopped working. His Mrs was furious so he was dispatched to fix it.

Turned out a 49kg gas bottle had been buried and had just ran out!

Upon further inspection the pipe at the steading next to the plot where ill be building is 3/4 inch so 19mm, will this be too small to connect to? Pressure seems strong

ah good i just wondered because im sure someone said it had to be 32mm for new houses now?
Your regs may be different in Scotland to what we have in Norfolk.have recently put in 13 supplies.all 50mm from Anglian water pipe as they required some going 1.5 miles and then reduced to 32 near the properties.we then reduced to 20 and all been fine

Old black alkathene is measured internally and newer blue is measured externally, so 3/4 black =25mm blue and 1" = 32mm
Ah really i didnt realise, i thought the pipe looked hell of a lot bigger than 20mm tbf, that might work ok then i could mabye connect a 32mm pipe to it and run that into the new property so it fits with the new build rules?

I’ve a free connection, given in the 60s as compensation when going through the farm with a second 750mm main, when they repaired it I got the lads doing it to fit a 32mm connection rather than the original 1/2”/20mm.
