More N or weed control

I doubt you've even seen the benefit of your first dose of N yet??

I'd be more inclined to go with weed control. If the brome gets too big it will laugh it off.
So basically, I need to get BWS on asap before the brome gets to far advanced, but BWS won't work if it's too cold.
What's the saying?
'F*ck my life' (only joking I know there are a lot of farmers in a far worse position than me)
Thanks all for all your advice, leaving me more confused than when I asked the question. 😅

I don't know which brome you have but I can tell you, that in general, cold dry conditions tend to bork herbicides in general, particularly where SU/ALS products are being used on grass weeds. I have had indifferent control with Atlantis, Pacifica and Broadway star in such conditions. I also know people who have had spectacular failures in ryegrass control from some of these products in problematic springs.

As you say the problem is as the days tick by the crop is moving onward, the weeds are moving onward and jobs begin to queue up. You know your conditions better than I do being sat here but I was waiting for the bus this morning at 7.30 and it was fudging cold stood there and I don't think it changed much all day.

Bws, corteve said you need three work days before and after and also Feb is the best month how do you square the circle on that . 2022 spring I sprayed brome with Pacifica plus 28 th of March on a very warm day did next to nothing 2023 sprayed proverb on 7 th of April did a lot better job this year was thinking of bws, but would it be to late first week of April ? Any advice apreciated.

With apologies to those struggling to get their first N on
My wheat got 50gk N+S03 3 weeks ago next Tuesday.
Walking round with the agronomist yesterday and we would like to get some BWS on to tackle some particularly nasty brome. The dilemna being, do I top the N up first or herbicide.
My gut feeling is to go with more liquid, but another small dose and have 4 passes ( I don't have a lot to do, so logistically won't be a problem and would actually help as we can go with lighter loads on still wet fields)
Just wondering what the wisdom of TFT would suggest? @Brisel and the usual suspects please

similar conundrum here right now but it needs to warm up before we can use herbicides

Drying up nicely here this morning, before the next band of rain :(
Was even thinking I could get some digestate on some fields, but desperate as they are, they won't want to come and do just a little bit, and the heavens will no doubt open, the minute they pull into the yard

Don't get hung up on the date unless there's a label cut off or the weed is dinner plate sized and in stem extension. If the best day is in April, don't be too generous with PGRs as the herbicide will do the stunting for you!

Sorry, that's not very encouraging!

I don't know how you or others do it. Out of interest just how strict are you, if there was only the correct weather on Sundays to do spraying for the next 2 months would you work?

i didn't think it was posible until we did it, the work always gets done, it's important, life / work balance is totally overlooked by most farmers I think, one of the reason we have big mental health issues and staff recruitment issues as an industry

Buy kit a bit bigger than the accountant would tell you is required and just keep it longer (or buy it used) to keep costs right

There is mental health issues regarding the mounting list of spray and fert jobs. And its nothing to to with size of kit!

I went spraying Sunday, wasn't in my plans at breakfast, but conditions were "suitable".
That was the only spray opportunity within the 8 days previous and doesn't look like there is another window to at least next Monday.
Was just a couple of loads managed and still behind.

Easy to say work/life balance but - this year more than ever - the weather governs what and when we do it. Occupational hazard.
