Mowing charges

Way too cheap, the lot of ya. I've got no idea how anyone is making money at those prices?

Going rate with my contractor is $360 + GST (15%) per hour for McMassive tractor & triples, $230 + GST per hour for 3.8m single.

Raking or tedding is $165 + GST per hour

Carting and stacking bales (tractor/JCB) is $200 per hour

No one down here charges per acre/hectare as far as I'm aware, everything gets lumped into a per bale charge ($45 + GST per bale to mow, rake, bale, wrap and stack).

I probably could, but access is shocking, tight little areas as well. I use the 50hp compact with the drum and get in easily and will take only a little longer.

And you'll hear old fables like ,"agh yes that's where I left that old chain harrows" etc.etc.

Or as happened to me.... "I think the chain harrows are around that tree somewhere, but you should be able to see them when you get there..."

I suggested he went and found them with a brushing hook else would not be starting!

Often thought a sticker in the window like in a China shop would be good.

I charge 14 per acre on my Diesel and I don’t consider it expensive as I may have to drive 6 or 8 miles one way to mow 3 acres.

those jobs need charging by the hour you cannot charge by the ac to be fair to others clock starts when you start putting mower on until taken off

Maybe on the Canterbury plains but you wouldn’t average those ac travel would be a big cost in NZ

Cant see the rate goin up much as more farmers will buy thier own mower. Alot of farmers round here have bought thier own mowers recently so they must reckon it pays ok

Here in the west of Ireland it varies from €20-25 inc vat at 13.5% per acre. But most fields only 3-4 acres. I charge the higher end as I’m not just working for fun!!!

Could kill an hour and a half for you when you could have made 60 bales somewhere else.

Usually average 7acres per hour mowing. If we are baling it it’s included in the price of the bale

Yea, I'd average about 6. Could loose an hour on the road between both ways though.

In haulage there are two basic ways of charging, point to point OR round trip and when you price a job point to point the rate per mile is roughly double that of a round trip basis.
Knowing how to charge and make sure costs are covered can make or break a business.
