Mowing charges

Never fail to be amazed at regional variations.

There is no way £7 an acre covers running a mower, I consider twice that to be running at cost, so much so when pressure is on and things tight for time I pay another man £15 an acre to go mow for me.

It’s great just turning up without the hassle of miles of roading for nothing.

On the other hand we struggle to get more than £30 per hour tractor, man, diesel and implement.

£7 would be damn good pay in many parts of the country. Some of these boys have fields so big they can average 15acre an hour with doubles on a pretty average tractor. That's a hell of a lot better than running tractors and trailers at 35/40 per hr
Even at £10 a new fendt and triples will leave more margin than trailer jockeys at £40/hr. It's just a matter of getting the work to justify it.

That’s true, but I’m sure there is plenty of 2 acre gardens to be called out to as well, could take some all day to drop 50 acres, taking good with bad it has to average out.

I know all about them! I'm including them (and smaller) in my average. Still never below 10acre/hour.Admittedly baling contractors will have more roading to do but still.

What are folks seeing as a charge/ac this time?

I've been asked about doing some mowing with an 8ft disc mower, 10-15 ac patches, with a few farting little blocks that will need the old PZ drum. Not a clue on pricing TBH. Can fit it in around my own stuff, as will be down a cut this year I suspect...

It was rolled as an attempt to find the debris only a few days pre mowing . Actually yielded 4.5 bales an acre over the block on third cut which I personally think wasn’t bad
anyone with any sense would've grazed it and picked up the crap after.

Why can’t you get the 8ft in?
Guy comes in with butterflies to knock my 2-3 acre fields off 👍🏻
