New tractor not registered to me?

Hi, I recently bought a new tractor (a first for me) from a dealer. They have sent me the V5 but it is not in my name, but theirs - registration date on the day I purchased it.

The dealer tells me this is normal for tractors and all I have to do is fill in the change of ownership details on the form.

Is this normal?

Thanks!

There's a scam I think, the dealer has got a big discount putting the tractor on his demo fleet, but sold it to you as new. Ask for a better price as your now the second owner and tractor is not new on paper but ex demo. Main dealers used to get extra 20% + on tractors put as demo tractors,

Thanks for the feedback...got some further info from dealer:

"
The DVLA document is correct , it has been pre registered by us directly initially , as you have to do it this way and have insurance in advance to get a v5 issued .
( we use our block insurance to get it ore registered .

All you have to do is sign it on the bottom right side and add your address details .
Then post it directly to DVLA and they will sort you the new v5 in your name .

This is how we do it on all
Our new tractors , simply becuase if we don’t do it via our Block insurance , you can’t get a registration document based on the vin number being insured only . It’s a peculiarity if Tractors ( they each have individual applications by maker to get first registration )

There is no fee , we already paid it to DVLA to get the registration number in first place . It’s just a postal change

Sounds strange. I think the dealer will register it to get to a target. Technically a demo perhaps and I am would think that registration and insurance are separate issues if you are a dealer.
Hope it does not have 300 hours on the clock

Bullsh?t excuse from the dealer. they should have an insurance cover note from your insurance company for VIN number and just change to reg number later on the policy. if every dealer. tractors or cars there would not be any new vehicles sold as new vehicles but all pre-reg vehicles. something is very wrong in my eyes with this dealer. be careful.

Thanks - they didn't ask for a cover note.

You are not the second owner of maker registers , becuase we declare it new to DVLA as president registration .
This is the only way it gets done on Tractors unless you are a dealer with your own block insurance trade policy for tractors .
There is no devaluation to it and you are not the second owner as such .
We declare to DVLA in the process that it is new ( from us ) .... this means it only appears in our name for a day or two until you change the registration to your own name .

There is no way around this form of registration , as Tractors are not like cars .... individuals cannot register them as new themselves unless you have both trade insurance ( that block covers vin numbers only at point of DVLA registration ) and full origional holmologation documents from the EU and UK safety agencies .
That takes months and a trade insurance policy is around 3 k to get . So 100% of all our tractors go out with our name on as makers until you change it over .

So to all intents and purposes You will can’t do it any other way reasonably .

It's feeling a bit like that...not sure what I can do, just getting more nonsense back from him.

The only thing I can think of is there was an admin charge and line item on the invoice for road registration. I guess it's reasonable to assume it should have been in my name without having to say, and that it can't have been pre-registered.

Tell them you want a new tractor not a pre owned model ,because that is what you have paid for
