I’m sitting down this week with local NFU rep.

He’s been wooing me for the last few years to join but I have declined for various reasons.

I’m still inclined not to join.....partly due to and not limited to:

Red tractor.
Inept use of social media.
Preaching to the converted by not using the current channels.
Not will to publicly confront various parties attacking agriculture
Etc

But what would you pick them up on?

Same here.
Every time there's something in anti farming in the media, instead of fighting our corner tooth and nail, they issue some half hearted statement that looks like they're virtually agreeing with our detractors.

Too frightened to put the cat among the pigeons in case they jeopardise their knighthood or cosy seat on a quango when they've done their stint in office.

Would dearly like to support some sort of farming body but sadly the NFU aint it ..:(

Not been a member for years, too weak an organisation if farmers take a stance against something they seem to distance themselves from it and criticise farmers for taken direct action , never looks like they have a backbone when stupid rules come out and tell the decision makers what to do with said rules , maybe its the farmers fault that not enough member get behind them other unions have massive backing from their members if the terms and conditions don't suit them its a go on strike job or the threat of a strike !!

I am actually a member. I’m not a farmer but a machinery manufacturer that used to own ( company not me) 7 acres. I’m this day and age I really can’t see the point of them. If I was mid fifties and looking for my son or daughter to take over the farm (7 acres ) I’d be on a different mindset as it’s an easy way to make cash. Look at all the new young entrants .... terribly nice.... but they ain’t going to set the world on fire or indeed disagree with the grown ups ( uncles and daddies friends) . However, for the right money, I may change my view.... even I could sort out their terrible social media and I know Eff all about social media! Terribly nice team though!

I am in Scotland, so the SNFU. Resigned years ago as apparently I am "not a proper farmer" even with a degree in agriculture and family in farming since the year dot! Told to go forth and multiply when I asked for help. Surprised to find I got a lot of support from neighbours who confirmed my opinion. Another "good ole boys' club" with membership based on acreage.

I was in it for three years and I can’t see what I got out. When I asked for planning advise they just fobbed me off to bidwells. It’s easy to see who will be promoted and make it to the top of the tree and I don’t think any of them represent my views, so I left.
