Anyone else twiddling their thumbs waiting for spring crops to ripen? 2020 is really weird.

Yes. 80% is fit, and heading nearer the floor daily. The other 20% seems to be getting greener despite having the big R treatment last Saturday. Lack of sunshine ain't helping. The year that keeps on giving......

Wait for it to rain, cut it at 16-17 then run it all through dryer.. greens crisp up

Start with the liquid sun on Saturday. Suspect it won't see s combine in three weeks. Barley going to central store. Plenty of floor space for oats.

Leaving it alone. It’s all over the shop. The green is too green to round up. The dead stuff is nearly ready to combine now but hoping it won’t break too far down before the green catches up.
Green grains in the heap cause moisture to creep up and average out a percent or so higher than small samples off the combine from dry areas but all depends on how ratio of greens to dry. I don’t think round up works very well with low soil moisture which we have here and don’t like spending even more and running the crop down. Will spray a small area of couch in the crop but that’s all. Will also combine areas within fields as they become fit, leaving green areas a bit longer. A bit of a mess but that’s the year it is.
If I had a villa abroad I’d probably go there for three weeks and come back to gather up what’s left.

Lol. I'm currently weighing up a new cattle shed.....or thirty acres and a house in southern Spain! Would be a easy way to while away the dead time.

Still nowt near fit. Some jan drilled wheat might be 3 weeks. Some spring barley maybe 2-3

plenty of air thru it and it'll die off fine.....the old kongskilde bins were great for that job

When we do go I think I’ll dump it in the wet shed with pedestals in, aerate it and see what it settles at, then dry or bucket into dry store as required.

I think the important thing is to leave it for long enough in the heap to even out before putting it through the dryer or into long term store, remixing as you go. I find the green grains shrivel and dry in the heaps as tipped as the moisture evens out. Common sense really but I’d avoid tipping straight off the combine into long term store as I reckon that would be asking for hot spots unless you have got a good stirring system and underfloor blower.

Get it bought and filled. Variety diminishes the grip that problems with certain crops have upon us. Spreads the risk and load etc.

We cut some, less than 10%green. Put it in a heap, stir or blow air through it for a few day to even out moisture. Then dry if above 15%

Get it bought! TFF holiday villa with mates rates. Much better return than a cattle shed. Know where I would rather be on Christmas morning!

If you’ve got stock, or can sell to other stock farms, then crimping is an option.
