There are good and bad people from all backgrounds, I didn't make any distinction? The Human Rights Act protects your right to life (article 2). My complaint is that the victim has not been protected and extreme case like this where there is a complete lack of humanity. The defendants failed to stop & check whether their actions would result in the death of another human, in this case a Police officer. It was inhumane and I doubt there's any remorse. They have chosen to live outside the boundaries of decent law abiding society and the law shouldn't protect their human rights - and in the case of killing an officer of the law, the right to life itself.
I suppose the thing is that the law is dispassionate. And I suppose it has to be in order to reach the verdict. If you have a murder trial and the killing is extremely brutal and sickening vs a murder that wasn't (ie gunshot) it is not the jurys remit to consider the brutality of the killing. Its their decision to decide if there was murder or not. The judge can then appropriate the sentence.
Fwiw there are plenty of people who think we should evolve from a jury system for a lot of such cases and move to more judge based system...
