Plough doesn’t pull straight

I have a kverneland es85, very good plough. And I pull it with a claas Arion 620 which is also very good

when I’m ploughing it’s always trying to pull away from the work, so the top link is never straight and it always ploughs the front furrow to wide. When ploughing across a hill it’s impossible to make it match up because all it wants to do is fall down the hill as much as the stabilisers will let it.

a few years ago when I’ve had a plough on demo it was exactly the same.

am I right in thinking this is caused by the tracking of the front and back wheels of the tractor not being right ? My front wheels are wider apart than my back wheels

any help appreciated

Inside of front wheels should be 0 to 10 cm more than the insides of the rear wheels, and with a 4 wheel drive tractor or when ploughing deeper than 7 inches running equal settings is advised, according to the Kverneland Ploughing Guide. It is recommended rear wheels are 110 to 160cm between insides too.

Pretty normal I think.the reason I got a more modern plough as I could adjust tracking to suit my tractor .I have it set to slightly pull the trac towards the unploughed, making steering easier.on hills it can be impossible to match bouts perfectly, the downside of sidehills.

Change make! Seriously, there should be a turnbuckle of some kind on the plough to adjust the beam towards or away from the ploughed ground as required.

Both my claas tractors are the same and they pull the plough the same. I had an idea once to do a level field with the 64 to try it but it won’t lift the plough. I could do with a demonstrator to try it on but don’t want to waste anyone’s time
There is lots of settings on wheels ,centers and tracking to adjust, whatever tractor your on.

The stabilisers should be free, with a properly matched tractor and plough the plough will follow with the top link straight down the centre line of the tractor. If its not pulling straight nothings is right.

A lot of things have to match,
front wheel track
back wheel track,
tyre sizes
mouldboard width
cross shaft width.

If your front wheels are wider apart than the backs, I expect your front wheel is running on ploughed land while the back is in the furrow. So everything is on the pee (ie not running/tracking square)

Yeh that’s what I got. Wheel centres are welded. I’ve changed them over left to right and made it so the fronts are as wide as when tractor was new but still not matched up.

spoke to Hamblys apparently we can buy longer studs and spacers to put the back wheels out wider to match but at £423 a side I think I’ll put up with ploughing that’s not quite right for the time being
